    Our First year Lambing! (2024-25)

We jug mom and lambs for a couple days to 1 week for bonding. They can lamb with the flock (which is less upsetting for them) but then we grab the newborn lambs and lead the ewes into the barn and stick them in a jug. Bonding is important, particularly when you have mutiple ewes lambing at the...

Some states have (used to have?) an introductin to AG and food production in their curriculum. California doesn't. California used to supply over 50% of the nation's fruits and vegetables, along with beef, and cotton. Ever since the Sacramento legislators decided that a tiny fish was more...

Haven't been on in awhile - trip to Amarillo to meet DS1 and swap car for truck. Your business card is nice is it 2 sided or folding? You can also save some space by having your services in a 2 column format: "Site Prep Excavation Firebreaks...

Don't you love it when (city) people talk about the relaxing oife farmer and ranchers have?! Most farmers and ranchers I know have a town job as well as working into the night doing their ranch work. My friend in Utah is usually out in the fields until midnight moving wheel lines (he...

That color with white trim was popular about 10-15 years ago. Then gray became popular. I understand the designers are returning to earth tones so should be right in style!

Sheep with overnight sores on face

Look like bite puncture marks to me, probably infected. I would remove several scabs and see if they would drain - squeeze to see if anything comes out. Sometimes puncture wounds close up, the skin healsI looking like everything is ok even with antibiotics. Infection is left under the skin...

Meaning shorts and tank tops. I do have zip front sweatshirts and a pair of jeans. Today was DH's last cardio test and appointment. All good, she wants to see him again in January so got an appointment same day as his return pulmonary appt. We went to Costco for a BBQ chicken and I made...

Absolutely! Make sure the charge is enough to hurt, but if someone dies, the pigs will be helpful . . . .

Have they gotten any offers on their place yet? Here is a hint, when the realtor shows up with porospective buyers casually "happen" to be close by. If they don't seem like neighbors you would want, coment on the raw sewage smell, bad drainage, and high risk of shooting at night. LOL Don't...

Old adage is that it takes 2 lmbs per ewe to survive as a shepherd "One for the bank, one fr the shepherd". Twins are the break even, triplets make you money! :weee Just what you would expect from careful genetics and breeding! This is why you want to get working dogs from working parents...

So should come in around $150-$200 each. :fl So x 4 rams/wethers= $600-800 minus the yardage and commission. Should buy some more fencing or panels. :) DH and I will have to go to south TX for some more jug panels and gates from the companies you told me about. Don't want to spend the money...

Sounds like the corn and hay crops were good this year. The weather held for you. Supposed to be a La Nina year this year.

Hard to get along when one or two "neighbors" keep doing bad stuff to another. No luck with restraining orders either I suppose since you don't have any "proof". :somad

Triplets often don't grow as fast as twins but catch up later. Wait to decide on selling a while longer. If the ewe is small but perfect in conformation you can breed to a smaller framed ram.

Coconut is still young so may just be going through the "uglies". Since she is a ewe she won't drop in what she brings next yer if you decide to send her to auction then. Or you could take her to that sale you went to last year when you had the only ewe lamb for sale and got her sold...
