Time does fly! I have 12 confirmed pregnant, 26 in the respective buck pens and another 5 more waiting to go up in the pens.
Your goats are in great shape! If anything the boys look a little overconditioned but a few weeks with the does will cure that. ;) Breeding should go very nicely.
You want to rim off all the outer edges. Clean out all the dirt and mud you can. There isn't much you can do nutritionally but having lots of rocks and solid surfaces for them to walk and climb on will help. Big rock piles are great!
That udder is very bad. That doe would be a cull for me and I raise meat goats. I have a few with udders that look like that but they are 9 and 10 years old. For $200 you can get something much nicer.
Registered goats will usually sell for more. If horns are an issue, you can tip them...
I would treat for both listeria and meningel worm. High does antibiotic for listeria. Safeguard, triple the label dose for 5 days straight for meningel. I have saved goats from both but it isn't easy.
Sorry to hear about his, I hope she pulls through.
Yes. His Sire was top 10 in the buck test in 2012. The sire of our other 3 bucks which collectively earned top consignment was top 5 in 2010.
Buying good performance gives you good performance.
CAE is a tricky disease. There is no treatment and the tests are not very accurate, high rate of false positives and occasional false negatives as well. There is also a lot of hysteria, speculation, assumption and outright false information out there about it. What you need to do depends on...
WE got these pups at the Bluegrass Performance Invitational Sale. They came from a goat farm in Virginia. There were 8 pups in the litter and we couldn't choose between these two so we got them both.
This is Peron
The first night, he wasn't so sure about the flash.
He likes to sit and...
I know I have not been on here in awhile, it has been a very busy year. But I have some exciting news and I want to share it with my farmer friends.
Our buck was the top buck at the MD Buck test! Our boys as a group earned the top consignment of the year for the second time...
Is she on pasture or in the barn? How dry is it? In the summer I would suspect she may be inhaling dust or hay if she is in the barn. It may be hot and dry air. I wouldn't suspect pneumonia this time of year and while it could be lung worm, they are not that common.
Is she a new arrival or...
I think size wise it is fine for three little goats. A full size goat needs about 5 ft^2. That shelter is 14 ft^2, that should be plenty since they have access to the outdoors. What kind of ventilation does it have? I see the front has a gap at the roof but not the sides. Does the back...
You might want to start your own thread.
If they are presenting with diarrhea, it is more than just worms. Worms almost never cause diarrhea. Since it is just kids that are having issues, I would bet it is Coccidiosis I would be giving Sulmet or Di Methox (injectable given orally) in...
You really can't tell by looking at how big the doe is. You need to look at their twee twee and see how swollen it is and look at their udder to see how full and tight is is.
Have fun! It is so exciting to be expecting babies. :weee
We have some goats with CL. The first ones I bought oh so many years ago had it and I didn't know any better. By the time I realized what we had we had too much invested to start over. So I did tons of research and consulted with my vet. We decided to immunize with Cas-Bac. It is not labeled...
