WOW! I was just talking to someone Friday who said with hay prices in her area, it is cheaper to feed commercial pellets.
We don't feed hay in the summer unless a goat has to be in the isolation pen for some reason. I use electronets to rotate them around and get the most use out of...
I do something similar to GoatBoy only I don't use sweet feed. They don't need the molasses and there is a risk of the food getting moldy. I mix 2 parts commercial 18% protine pellets to 1 part whole corn and 1 part alfalfa pellets. I will adjust the protein pellets up and down depending on...
We do not offer hay in the summer and limit it in the winter when they have stockpiled pasture. They get grain year round though what they get in the summer is about 1 lb/ 8 goats- just enough to keep them running towards me when I shake the bucket. What they get in the winter is very...
The Bluegrass Performance Invitational will be selling the top performing bucks from the MD Buck test. This will be the best sale to get a buck at. There are 23 consignors that have 77 bucks at the buck test. 4 of them are ours. Other consignors include: Adams Family Kikos, Mill Creek...
Windy Hills has nice stock. You will be pleased with them. We are in Northern Kentucky, about 30 minutes south of Cincinnati, OH.
We will be consigning at the Appalachian Kiko Invitational in Gray TN, and at the Bluegrass Performance Invitational in Frankfort, KY. They are both in...
Where are you located? We have a 2013 PB kiko buck for sale. He was on the MD Buck test last year and had the lowest average fecal egg count of any buck on the test. He never went over 500 EPG and 2000 EPG is considered the point at which you need to treat. Very parasite resistant genes. I...
We have had to go to Prohibit around here. Unfortunately it is the wormer of last resort. Good thing are goats are fairly worm resistant and we rotate regularly. We had trouble last year but have culled several does and increased the rotation schedule in response.
They are so lovely! Houdini has grown so wonderful! I still remember when you first got him. Ian is such a handsome boy, I remember when he just a baby.
Depends on time of year, location and breed. Are you talking about breeding stock or market goats? Down in Louisiana I would go with Spanish, kikos or fainters. Boers will have a tough time with the heat and humidity.
Breeding stock can be $150 and up ($1,000's). Market kids will run...
The NKR is having a the Southeast Goat Association Fall Roundup on Nov 14-15 in Hattiesburg, MS.
Try contacting the SEKGA as well. http://www.sekga.us/
Of the breeders listed above, I recommend the Beeches and Rittenhouse Kikos.
The care of sheep is just about identical to that of goats, except the copper which has been discussed. I would get the copper bolus's from Jeffer's and give her one 2-3 times a year. She is a dark colored goat so it will help. If the black is starting to get a little red, she needs copper.
My Tractor Supply carries Scour Halt. I think they brand they have is labeled Spectoguard, Scour Chek. As long as it is "Spectinomycin" it will work.
Limit the grains to just a few ounces, one or two times a day. Leave out free choice hay and lots of clean, cool water at all times. Baby...
He is being a goat. Do you have other goats? Maybe he is lonely. I find the only thing to keep them in is to make sure there is nothing more appealing on the other side.
The scours don't sound too bad. I would go with probiotics and the Scour Halt.
Do they have access to pasture at all? Or just hay? What kind of feed? What kind of goats? What was momma eating before? Do you have other hay/grass eating critters?
I have to get back to work but I will...
