Anyone around the south or Louisiana know how the market for meat goats are? I got my first goat a few months and becoming addicted. I have a few acres of open pasture and feed in my area is pretty reasonable. Does anyone have any pointers. What's the going rate for goats? Who/where is the best place to sell?

Depends on time of year, location and breed. Are you talking about breeding stock or market goats? Down in Louisiana I would go with Spanish, kikos or fainters. Boers will have a tough time with the heat and humidity.

Breeding stock can be $150 and up ($1,000's). Market kids will run $1.20-$2.50/lb with lots of variables.

See if there is a graded sale near you. That will be the best prices. You may also find a local processor who will buy them, especially if you are near a large city.

Thanks for the reply, I have one Spanish and that's what I would like to raise. I would like to have some breeding stock and market goats.
