I think you are in the right. $200 seems like a fair deal for goats in that condition. But it ultimately depends on how far you are willing to go to try and save them. :/ Hmmm... I hope this guy will see how unreasonable he is being.
If they have grown up together, or lived together for awhile, I'm sure they would be fine together. Just don't buy them from seperate places because then they would probably fight establishing "who's boss". Yet all goats do that to new herd members.
Also, If you are going to get goats, buy a book or two on raising goats and know some good websites you can turn to for help. One of the books I have found helpful is called "How to Raise Goats" by Carol A. Amundson. A website that I constantly use for help on almost ANYTHING is Fiascofarm.com...
My experience with Alpines is that they can be kind of mean. Not necessarily to humans (although sometimes) but to other goats. I sold my Alpines because they were using their horns to injure my other goats. Alpines produce a lot of milk, though.
My experience with LaManchas were that they are...
There are certain chemical dewormers that cause miscarriages, such as Valbazen, or even natural dewormers like wormwood. So maybe the previous owner didn't know about that and accidentally gave her a dewormer not suitable for pregnant animals. I would breed her again- I bet there was a reason...
Did you just blood test? I've heard that blood tests aren't very accurate at determining CL. A breeder told me that her goat had an abscess and blood tested her for CL, results came back negative. But when she tested the fluid in the abscess, CL test came back positive. Now I don't know how you...
Are you sure it's bloat? If it's bloat I would give her baking soda. Have you given your goats the CD&T vaccine? If its Enterotoxemia (overeating disease) or tetanus you will need to treat with Clostridium Perfringens Type C & D antitoxin.
I hope everything turns out ok! :hugs
I thought that too but milk neck only occurs in goats still nursing/ drinking milk, and WhiteMountainsRanch's doe is not still drinking milk- or is she?? WhiteMountainsRanch?
Today my neighbor's dog found a baby bird that had fallen out of the nest and into the yard. My neighbor got to the bird before the dog did so the bird has no apparent injuries. My neighbor brought to me and said "your good with this kind of stuff, take it". I know it is really REALLY hard to...
When you dry up a milking goat do you just stop milking or do you prefer to do it gradually (once a day, every-other day, then once every 3 days, once a week, etc)? I'm trying to dry up a doe right now but she just produces so much darn milk! I'm down to milking once a day (have been for about 2...
