Hey all,
I am about to clear about an acre off wooded land on my property. All trees and stumps will be removed/burned. Just raw soil and rocks and small debris will be left. What can I spread as far as seed to get some raw growth going this Spring? The soil has good PH. I know it would take...
Ok, so, what then is adequate material for a couple of Nigerian Dwarfs.

Hey all,
Anyone here used an ATV to stretch woven wire fencing? If so, is it best to use a Winch on my ATV or just use the ATV itself to pull the fencing taught? My Winch is 2500lb capacity... Any tips or step by steps would help. I know I would have to rig up some sort of pull such as 2x4 or...
Very nice... Can you post more pics of your setup/housing(and of course, the kiddos)? I plan to get some goats next Fall and would love to see your set-up. Thanks and congrats!
This is the woods on my 10 acres. Rocks, fallen trees, high canopy... oaks, beech, ash, select tall pines. Lots of waist high growth on summer. Ferns etc.
Hey all, I am planning on getting a couple of goats in the next year or so. They will be homed in a fenced in wooded area on my property that is made up of mostly Oak, Beech, Ash and a few tall Pine trees... large fern and other species in the summer months. They will of course have shelter as...
Hey all looking for feedback on LBs... I have raised some AGHs before for meat, but am now considering LBs. How large do they get and how long to grow out? Are they good foragers? I hear they are quite docile. How is the meat? Is there lots of Lard like AGHs? Do they handle acorns well? Just...
Thanks. I will definitely be taking down trees... Especially the oaks! I may even get some goats in just to help clear some of the land, then maybe some pigs to tear it up prior to introducing a cow to my collection. I'd like to get some grass growing so at least there is a bit... We have just...
Hi all - I have 10 acres of wooded land, lots of Oak trees. Small hobby farm I'd like to grow. Would love to add a milking cow. I can cut trees, put up fencing, shelter etc... but there is no real pasture. Has anyone here raised a 'cow in the woods' so to speak and fed primarily hay year round...
My daughter has interest in raising, possibly breeding some rabbits. What are some good cold weather breeds to consider? Would the Netherlands Dwarf be one to consider? We would be building a nice home/shelter, but plan on keeping them outside year round.
Thanks,
Steve
Yes, Solar... Checked the line again this AM and I could not find anything touching it anywhere. 8' ground in wet soil. The fence was working perfectly well with the light pulsing every 2 seconds or so... Now, I can hear the charge build and then the light pulses when it releases the charge at...
Hey all, I have noticed that the pulse on my charger has slowed down a bit - every3-4 seconds as opposed to every 1-2 seconds... What would be causing this? I have checked the line and there is nothing touching. Small area. 5 acre model. Still working however... Cold weather? Cloudy days?

I too am in Maine and will hopefully be getting some Guinea Hogs myself at the end of the summer. Same story, hobby farmer that had been into chickens for a while and am ready to branch out. Being a first time hog owner I plan on taking the advice that many have given - that being to raise a...
