First Freshener (this saturday..twins!) - Udder question...

Thank you for the advice - I appreciate it! The kids are just nursing from one side - I've been milking out the other - hope that's the right thing to do... It's normal looking milk/ colostrum - and it evens out when I milk it 2x a day - such tiny teats though- hoping they get bigger like her...

First Freshener (this saturday..twins!) - Udder question...

My first freshener just had twins this Saturday.. They're beautiful, a buckling and a little doe. Kind of scary for me because it was my first "delivery" assistance, the last twin (buckling) was backwards and I had to help out...but no complications- mom is doing okay - so are the kids..BUT...

How do you store milk untill use?

We use the Half Gallon Ball jars with the twist on lids. When I get overrun with milk, I put it into gallon ziploc bags and freeze it - When you thaw it to use again you need to use a blender because it separates a bit, but it works out really good when I go to make soap :) -- Frozen milk is...

I have a doe with Mastitis - I need help with dosing ToMorrow..Please!

I did it once, made sure it was super clean (alcohol swabs etc..) and went out tonight to do it again, but was unsure if I should milk her out again? Well, I figured I'd try and then re-infuse (it's been 24 hrs) - But, I was unable to milk her out..I can feel it in there, but it won't come out...

Horn delamination, is this something to be concerned about?

Another great source for minerals/vitamins is Kelp ... The brand name we use is "Sea-min" it's a good one for all kinds of things they need!

I have a doe with Mastitis - I need help with dosing ToMorrow..Please!

I have a doe that is fighting mastitis - no temperature, no appetite loss, other than uneven udders and yucky stuff that can be milked out she doesn't have symptoms. She is dried off and otherwise healthy. She has been bred but I need to get this under control and gone. I have the ToMorrow...

Anyone know a safe natural udder wash to use?

Eucalyptus oil (about 40-60 drops) in an average sized spray bottle with water. I got my bottle from Sally's beauty supply. It works great. Cleans but doesn't dry :). I've also used a mixture from fir meadow (it's a concentrate..) called "DisInfect".. you mix about 60 drops to a quart of...

    Goat with a busted lip!

I agree with kalsavgno...depends on how deep the cut. I'd be careful what you put there too because they will most likely ingest it because of it being so close to the mouth... I have a herbal salve I usually use on cuts/abrasions etc.. it's from Molly's Herbals..really good stuff and it's...

    Barn floor/bedding questions...

I'm hoping for some advice here...We currently have a dirt floor barn for our goats. We've used "waste hay" (what they pull out of the feeders) for bedding, and I hate it. It needs to be cleaned out so often and it gets smelly. We're wondering what might be a good alternative?? I'm also...

Dropped milk production, am I doomed?

Congratulations on your new goat :). Sounds like you need to get her in a routine too. You really need to empty her completely as well because if you don't each milking, her body will interpret that as a decrease in demand and will stop making so much. If you plan to milk 2x a day, it should...

    Doe with scours... Please help....

I should mention we're also milking her. I threw the milk away this morning, just because of the whole 'mess' at the back door. I cleaned her up good, but I'm thinking the vet is going to be the answer too. Just don't want anything to "spread" to the others. With wormers, won't that come out...

    Doe with scours... Please help....

Good Morning- I woke up to my doe (who just kidded a month ago) -she has scours pretty bad. I've never had a goat with scours before but have kept on hand an "herbal GI soother" by fir meadow. I gave her that this morning in her feed. Other than her scours, she's fine, eating, drinking...

Doeling with small lump in neck

No injections, just noticed the little " bump " this morning. Can a kid get CAE/ CL without any other goat in the herd being " positive"??? If so how?? Wouldn't she have different symptoms other than a tiny lump?? From what I've read she'd have fevers and weakness etc going on too right??

Doeling with small lump in neck

It's not pussy or anything - just a knot .... And like I said mom is certifiably CAE free... Where else could it come from ?? Can they just " get it "???

Doeling with small lump in neck

I'm probably over reacting but I have a little lamancha doeling..doing awesome super healthy eating etc... She's 3 1/2 weeks old. While feeding the goats this morning I was holding her and noticed a little "knot" about the size of a pea on her neck. It seemed kind of uncomfortable but wouldn't...
