Week old kid just found dead :(

I'm just researching the heck out of things right now, trying to figure out if we did something wrong and how to fix it in the future. Kind of scared to try again and breed our other doe :/ . He seemed to be absolutely wonderful at 5:30pm. Nothing strange at all. I just wish I knew what...

Sad News - Baby Caramel is dead, Prelim Necropcy report in....Post #27

We just found our little one week old kid dead, and he looked fine this afternoon. We don't have any facilities close by that could do that, so I guess we will just never know what happened. So depressing. Poor little thing. Let us know what you find out.

Week old kid just found dead :(

So this afternoon we were outside with the animals for several hours and the Mars (the little buckling) seemed perfectly fine, hopping around, following his mama, nursing. We just went outside to milk out the side of Peggy's udder that Mars wasn't eating off of, and found him dead in the back of...

Just went outside to milk her, and found her kid dead in the back of the stall. Just don't know what happened. So sad, she is just crying and crying.

Help! What's wrong with her teat? *Update* Kid died.

So, our new little buckling is a week old today. We have been milking out the right side of Peggy's udder, since the kid mainly drinks out of the left side. This morning when I went outside to milk her, her right teat looked 'blown out'. My husband hadn't milked her the night before because he...

Just had our very first kidding! *UPDATED pics*

This was Mama and baby right after delivery. He is only nursing on the left hand side, so yesterday morning and night I milked just the right hand side, and got out about a pint each time? Didn't get hardly anything this morning, but there wasn't as much of a discrepancy between the two sides of...

Just had our very first kidding! *UPDATED pics*

She did deliver the placenta and made quick work of cleaning it up. I'm outside in the barn with them again. Baby was laying down when I got out here. I tried to stand him up to make him nurse and he nuzzled under her belly some but didn't nurse. How often should he be nursing? Like I said, he...

So almost an hour ago our Nigerian Dwarf goat Peggy delivered her very first kid! A vigorous black&white buckling. He started getting up and moving very quickly after birth, Peggy has been cleaning him and talking to him. We gave her some grain and warm water with honey&dipped the kids cord in...

    Mutt "Guard Dog"

The best guess for our mutt is a lab mix. He is about 42lbs now I think (if I remember correctly) and the vet said he looks like he will get to 60 or 7y0 lbs. I worry that he may be chasing my pregnant doe when we aren't out there because she is so skittish around him...when he isn't there (like...

    Mutt "Guard Dog"

So...back in November my husband almost ran over a little mutt puppy and ended up bringing it home. We do NOT need another house dog, so we decided to give it a go living outside with our small goat 'herd'. We have notice coyote packs around, although we don't have a lot of predators where we...

Getting ready to breed for the first time...advice?

Well, we were using the dumar goat feed? (I'm sorry...I forget the name!) With the coccidia preventative meds in it and we just switched them to the nonmedicated purina goat chow. The loose minerals are free choice manna pro and the alfalfa is free choice. What about their conformation? Do they...

Getting ready to breed for the first time...advice?

I definitely worry about how small they are. They seem tiny to me. They get alfalfa free choice, loose minerals and a cup of grain per day. Am I not feeding them enough? I don't regularly treat for worms or coccidia at this point but I do regular fecals on them and they did test positive this...

Getting ready to breed for the first time...advice?

I'm getting ready to breed one of my two Nigerian Dwarf goats for the first time in a couple of weeks. We are only breeding one at a time, since we are new to this, and decided to breed Pegasus first, since she is a little bigger. She is 40 lbs and will be a year old Oct 2 (She is the white...

3 day old Nigerian Dwarf Baby Girl--bottle feeding

Our Nigis from birth to 2 weeks took about 1.5-3oz 5x/day (6am,11am,3pm,8pm&midnightish), then the next 2 weeks took 3-5oz 4x/day, then for 2 weeks 5-7oz 3x/day and then 2 weeks 7-8 oz 2x/day. One of them was much harder to get to bottlefeed. We sat her on our lap, held her head, had to kind of...

6 month old Nigerian Dwarf Goats

So....should I decrease the amount of Noble Goat they get back down to 1x/day? I don't want them overconditioned! :) They just don't have much opportunity to browse other than 'free ranging' in my backyard and on our walks! And glad to hear they look good! As of right now, we aren't doing any...

6 month old Nigerian Dwarf Goats

My 2 Nigerian Dwarf girls are 6 months old now, and I was just looking for some input and reassurance! They seem energetic and loving, their poop is normal and they get free choice alfalfa hay, manna pro loose minerals, and 1 cup shared noble goat feed in the morning and at night. The little...

    A little overwhelmed...

So I've been spending all night reading up coccidia and worms and chemicals and herbals...etc. but I'm not sure what to do, or if I even have a problem. My two nigerian dwarf kids were born Oct 2. A couple of time we have noticed dog log type poop as well as once there was a day of pudding...

    Registration?

So...My babies were born on Oct 2nd and I brought them home at 3 weeks old...but I still haven't sent off their papers to get them registered! The breeder gave me registration papers to AGS, so I looked on their website and am guessing that I just send a cashiers check or money order to AGS...
