Hello,
I would pass on both of them. Remember green + green = Black and Blue+ broken. I do not sell young or green horses to green owners. What you really need is two sesoned horses to learn with. And if you can see if you can take lessons on horse care, feeding and grooming from the trainer...
You are going to love driving.... The first time I got to drive was WOW!!!! She was an American Saddlebred Fine Harness Champion. My best grenade mare, we went for a drive and was going along at a good clip and my friend Kathy just handed me the lines and said keep going. Boy was I hooked after...
Looks like a sun faded Chocolate to me. = Black horse with a Silver Dapple gene(Z) or a Red Chocolate= Bay with a Silver Dapple gene. If he has a cream gene also then he is a Silver Dapple Buckskin. You can do color testing on him if you wish. Let me know, we have a great lab here in Florida...
Looks like you do need to get a farrier out to work on the feet. And will probably need shoes to keep it from splitting more. That way you can get healthy hoof to grow out. The other one looks like an abcess eruption and should growout in time.

Have you thought about finding a lease, for learning all the new things you want to do. That way you can get lessons and learn on a horse you are not stuck with. That way if you advance faster than you thought you would you can upgrade your mount easier. Or change your mind about what...
Can you post some photos? I would think about getting one of the recommended farriers to atleast take a look at the feet. See what they recommend to get the feet sound.

Where are you located? What state? I can get a trim for $25-35 here in Florida. It might take having shoes put on for a bit to heal the crack. If the crack spreads up to the coronet band or gets into the laminae you are looking at some major problems. Look up some hoof problems on Google and see...
Do you use a certified farrier? He should know what to do to help your boy. I had a horrid experience with a so called blacksmith. Caught him pressure shoeing my horses. "To make them show better" he said.
Now I only use a certified farrier. The one I have is so worth his weight in gold to me...
Big improvement!!!!!!
Remember it will take as looong as it takes..... So no biggie!!!!!
He is getting there.... But, he is taking his own sweet time about it.....

Take a wire clothes hangar and bend over his wither area, like you are measuring for a saddle. Then put it away for at least 1 month, then get another one and repeat. Then compare them. FYI, you can also do this around the buttocks area, bit remember put it away where it will not get bent and do...
OK, Stop stressing.....
He is gaining..... You cannot see the change, because you see him EVERYDAY.... But he is gaining, OK!!!!
I use Cocosoya on my broodmares and anybody else that need to gain or hold weight. I start feeding it about 3 weeks before foaling. I start increasing a little...
I don't remember how many times I'v come off a horse. As a young and dumb(kid), if I could catch it I would try it. Now I school all of mine from day 1 as a newborn. By the time they are ready to ride as a long 3 year old, they know what all the commands are verble and line driving. Know how to...
You and your family need to sit down and look up 5-6 breeds you think you might like and contact the national breed associations for each one for more information and breeders in your area. Then start making barn and farm visits to find the ones you want. One of you might find a Quarter horse...

:welcome from Sugarloaf Mountain, Clermont, Florida. I would start looking up a lot of breeds and doing my homework. What kind of riding do you want to do? English, Western or what? Trailride, help work cows, horsecamp, ride long distance or what. This will help you decide what breed or type...
