My arabian has 2 white feet and I heard that those are more tender and crack and slit easily, and my horse is a pasture horse all his life he has been. He has one white hoof that has a HUGE crack in it and i dont know what to do. and he also has 1 black hoof that has a horizontal crack in it. (will post pics later) and everyvtime we trim them 2 weeks later they need to be trimmed again. Is there anything i can do for the cracks and the how fast his hooves are growing?

Do you use a certified farrier? He should know what to do to help your boy. I had a horrid experience with a so called blacksmith. Caught him pressure shoeing my horses. "To make them show better" he said.

Now I only use a certified farrier. The one I have is so worth his weight in gold to me. Have had him for over 14 years, and yes worth every penny and more.

I have NEVER had either of my horses have any type of farrier work done. other that my family trimming thier hooves. they are not certified. I have never been allowed to because my dad says it cost too much money. is there any other way! but if nessacery i will get a farrier. He has a horizontal crack on a black hoof and a HUGE vertical crack on a white hoof, and if his hooves get to long the white hoof splits even more.

Where are you located? What state? I can get a trim for $25-35 here in Florida. It might take having shoes put on for a bit to heal the crack. If the crack spreads up to the coronet band or gets into the laminae you are looking at some major problems. Look up some hoof problems on Google and see what matches.

Hope this helps,

Can you post some photos? I would think about getting one of the recommended farriers to atleast take a look at the feet. See what they recommend to get the feet sound.

This extreme dry weather is really tough on hooves - it's likely why you are seeing problems where you haven't in the past.

As a rule, it's usually said that white hooves are softer, black hooves are harder. But both can split under the right (or wrong :() conditions.

Pics would help. It sounds like you need a farrier to do some corrective trimming or even possible some temp shoes.
There are also many, many topical moisture products out there that you can use...but won't really address your current and more urgent needs.

Looks like you do need to get a farrier out to work on the feet. And will probably need shoes to keep it from splitting more. That way you can get healthy hoof to grow out. The other one looks like an abcess eruption and should growout in time.
