Rubbing a pig's belly - good or bad?

I love "pops his teeth"! That's EXACTLY what my guy does, but I didn't have the right words to describe it. It never feels like he's really trying to bite me. Sometimes he's just a grumpus.:)

Rubbing a pig's belly - good or bad?

Thanks for the reply Liz! You are absolutely right - Doink gives me his belly exactly when and where he wants to in the barnyard. I could walk around scratching his ears for a hour and if he doesn't want to lay down, he's not going to! I think he and I have come to an understanding. He's not...

Rubbing a pig's belly - good or bad?

Thanks VeganFarmer! I've changed vets and for the most part things are going well (except the 18 degrees on the thermometer at morning feeding time...) I read the book too - the pictures were simply wonderful!

    Goats and Chickens together?

Thanks for the input. I like hearing how other people deal with their barnyard! The pig and goat have been raised together since they were weeks old, so separating them is unlikely. Maybe we're lucky here in Colorado, but our vet seems to think our mish-mash of animals is not causing any...

    Goats and Chickens together?

I have goats (and a pig) and ten chickens sharing space. I have a small run on one size of the shed with an entrance that only the hens can go through. That solved my problem!

Hey!!! Pig People!!! how many are there of us?

I have one pot-belly - Doink is his name. He's sometimes sweet, sometimes cranky - and we love him. Haven't eaten meat in 30 years, so Doink, Brandy the goat and the ten hens are breathing a sigh of relief!:D

Can someone diagnose this bald, raised spot?

Yes - she was given a shot, but I didn't see where. Let's assume, if a shot will cause a bump like this, that's what it is. Do I need to worry or will it simply go away on it's own? And BTW, you people ROCK! Don't know what a newbie like me would do without the support. Thanks so much!:D

Can someone diagnose this bald, raised spot?

Here's the best picture I could get. She moves a lot. Again, it's about the size of a quarter, raised from the rest of the skin maybe 1/2", no hair, and a red mark on one side. It has not gotten better or worse in two days. She has no other problems and does not seem sick at all. She...

Can someone diagnose this bald, raised spot?

I will try and get a better picture as soon as somebody gets home to help. She is not keen on being still for a close-up. It is smooth skin, no lesions, no redness. It's just a big raised bump and with no hair on it.

Can someone diagnose this bald, raised spot?

Just after the vet gave her a clean bill of health a week ago, this appeared on Brandy's neck. I'm a TOTAL newbie and I have no idea what to do. It's about the size of a quarter, and I swear it appeared overnight. It doesn't seem to be getting worse or bigger, and it's been there two days.

    Colorado

So here's what my 50 lb. pit bull and 130 lb. son found in our backyard today. We live in Boulder County. Photo taken after "Smokey" was chased over the fence. Which "Smokey" squashed like it wasn't even there. Oh my. I am very, very worried about my goat, pot-bellied pig and ten...

Rubbing a pig's belly - good or bad?

I'm going to get the book today! Right after I head out to the yard and give Doink the pig a belly rub!

Rubbing a pig's belly - good or bad?

Thanks for all the input! His advice just didn't seem right to me, either. Maybe I should look for a new vet.... :)

Rubbing a pig's belly - good or bad?

Hi - me again! I just had a vet come and check out the year-old pig and goat that I adopted a couple weeks ago. He was nice enough, I guess. Maybe he was tired...:/ Anyway, he told me NOT to rub a pig's belly. He said when you pet a pig and it lays down and "lets" you pet its belly it is...

Is it aggression or just transition problems?

Thank you, TheSheepGirl! I'm a firm believer that there are always two sides to every story! The current situation is.... I'm not a leader by nature, to this is not an easy thing for me. Might be more my problem than the pig's. However, I went to the thrift store, bought myself some...

Is it aggression or just transition problems?

Thanks currycomb - looks like he has been castrated. And thanks drdoolittle for all your helpful comments as well. It gives me insight on my not-well-thought-out situation. In my situation, either all the farm animals get along together in the same area or someone has to go. They're pets...

Is it aggression or just transition problems?

Thanks for the input! I really want this to work as well. I had a long conversation with the former owners last night and they are both amazed and horrified. Nothing like this has ever happened before. I've gone to those other sites and incorporated their advise into my strategies for...

Is it aggression or just transition problems?

I just adopted a pygmy goat and pot-bellied pig, both a year old, from the nicest couple in the world, who gave them up reluctantly due to a relocation. These two animals were raised together on a small farm - outdoor animals. The pig is large but not huge. I totally believe the couple when...
