    Goat won't eat- tricks?

About 4 or 5. Not 100% sure, we "adopted" her from a family who had them as a 4-h project but were moving away. I believe they told me she was 4, so by now she might be almost 5.

How do you know if and when to put them down? :(

Thank you. She is up, but she just stands around, head hung low. It's so very sad. Her progress is so slow and so minimal, but those little sparks of hope make me want to nurse this girl back to health! I'm determined! But on the other hand I don't want her to suffer and it's taken a toll on...

How do you know if and when to put them down? :(

Thank you so much. I do think she is depressed because her vision is impaired and then she also can't see enough to eat. I've been giving her 2 different ointments for her eyes: Neomyclin/Polymyxin and a Sodium Chloride for the edema/couldiness. I've been using the ointments for at least 2...

    Goat won't eat- tricks?

So here's the back story of my sick goat: http://www.backyardherds.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=26081 She still won't eat...much. Maybe a few blades of hay a day. She's really weak and I think it's because she's not eating. She has clean meadow hay, access to rich pasture and I just bought some...

How do you know if and when to put them down? :(

My sweet goat Rosie has been sick for 3 weeks. We think it is chlamydiosis, but not 100% sure. Vet isn't sure either. I've been giving her subQ fluids for 2 weeks now, vitamin B, probiotics, 2 different eye ointments and 3 rounds of anti-biotics. Her eyes are slowly clearing up, but no where...

I'm at a loss. Goat is still sick.

I'm also doing medicated ointments for her eyes. I'll be dropping by the vet clinic later today to pick up a few bags for fluid infused with Vitamin B complex. I've been doing subq fluids with her for 4 days now, since she can't see to find her water and was dehydrated. Hopefully, this and the...

I'm at a loss. Goat is still sick.

Thank you! She has the eye issues, but no coughing, respitory issues, arched back, etc. I was reading more about how Chlamydiosis is spread by wild birds. We have TONS of birds up here, and they go in the chicken shelter to get leftover chicken feed where the goats hang out. (We have a large...

I'm at a loss. Goat is still sick.

Do only does get Chlamydiosis? I wonder...my two Boer goats who died previously were does, my sick goat is a doe and my two wethers have been healthy as healthy can be.

I'm at a loss. Goat is still sick.

Haven't tried that yet. I think I'll work on getting her rumen in order. It seems like all these anti-biotics are making her more and more sick. :( Though, I'll keep it in the "playbook" if her eyes don't clear up.

I'm at a loss. Goat is still sick.

She is not running a fever any longer (she had a slight fever in the beginning, but not for at least a week now). The vet gave her the anti-biotics for the severe and persistant cloudy eyes. She can't see a darned thing though them, stumbles around, can't find her water, food, etc. Thought it...

Thank you! I game to try whatever works for her! I'll call the vet tomorrow to see if I can get some Vit. B for her.

I'm at a loss. Goat is still sick.

2 weeks ago, I lost a goat and another came down with diarrhea and severely cloudy eyes. She didn't eat or drink for at least a week. I have been giving her 2 different eye ointments (one for pink eye, one for the edema/cloudiness). She was given 2 doses of LA200 and today a dose of...

Help! Lost 2 goats and one is sick...

Thank you. I'm going to have the vet come out tomorrow and see if she is really dehydrated and maybe give her an IV. And have her do a fecal test. I keep going out there and giving her a bowl of water, she drinks it. I think the biggest challenge is that she cannot see. She can't find her water...

Help! Lost 2 goats and one is sick...

I'm using an ointment for Pink Eye. Anti-biotic injections. I wormed today as well. She is shivering (I wrapped her in a blanket) and still has the very cloudy eyes. She can barely see! My vet and I are stumped! The combo of cloudy eyes and diarreah and the general "unwell" look to her...It...

Help! Lost 2 goats and one is sick...

Hmmm... We do live in an area that floods. And we just flood irrigated our pasture, but the water doesn't really make it to their area of the pasture.... I know for sure they were vaccinated against enterotoxemia and tetanus, but perhaps not the Type A you were describing. It was in February...

Help! Lost 2 goats and one is sick...

Yes, we vaccinate and they are up to date. We need to worm, since it's just started to be spring here. Fecals have not been done. Should I ask the vet to do so? Or is there something I can look for? We live in the Sierra Valley in California. Sierraville is the town. In the Sierra Nevada...

Help! Lost 2 goats and one is sick...

Here's the history- my boer goat died a few months ago from an unknown cause. Vet thought it was something neurological- some sort of bacteria. Other goats were fine at the time. I found her writhing on the ground, neck arched back and couldn't get up. She was very far gone. I decided to put her...

Help! I think they ate plastic!

So my goats have been shacking up with our chickens and yesterday I found the plastic sheeting we use on the walls of the shelter to keep them warm was torn up. I have a feeling they are nibbling the plastic. I found some pieces of it laying around, but I'm worried they may have ingested it...

    Grooming?

That would be a riot. Literally.:lol::lol: Installing a catch tray is a good idea. I had one on the floor, but I can bolt it up higher under the roost.
