Where would we get those new C/D vaccines in North Carolina are they something that TSC would carry or will we have to order online?
I have three little ones that I'll have to give first vaccinations to soon and I'd like to start them out right. Is this something my vet will have, or I can...
Lil'Mama (Light Caramel Pygmy) and her son Toro (Orange Caramel Pygmy Wether) When we first got them.
Frederick our Black agouti Billy.
Maggie, short for Magnolia, I'm not sure what to call her coloring.
S'more, Frederick x Maggie. Again not sure what to call the coloring.
Finally...
Our farm is named Rigby's Folly. But it's not Folly as in a silly undertaking (like the old English garden structures) but as in a mystical place full of magic and beauty.
My husband's family has been in this country for several hundred years and no matter where their farms have been, it's...
We got them from here http://www.strombergschickens.com/
You can put up a structure that has those triangular openings, you can put up just a pavilion. People use them for green houses. I would imagine you wouldn't have to wall in all sides etc.
Our chicken hut has a plywood floor with...
Here is a picture of our goat quonset hut - our first try at goat housing. This is for folks who live in the south or a temperate climate.
It was only our first attempt because to be honest our goats thought it made a better toy than "hut". It now lies sagging to one side 3/4 flat. Since...
Cissy Is a great goat name. We only named one of our adult goats. We have 4. Frederick who we actually bought because his name was Frederick. My Stepdad who passed away in 2006 had the same first name. Then the duo of Lil'Mama and Toro.
When we finally went to get the last adult goat we...
How about Fleur or Narcissa??? The coloring is right there. If you used Narcissa you could call her Cissy. They were both blonds. Both are floral names....
Of course there are more obscure names too....but those are off the top of my head.

We just built the regular size staunchion for our pygmies and it worked just fine. The only thing I wish is that it was taller. I say that because we use it for things other than milking.
When you want to trim hooves, look at udders, worm, give injections etc you might want them restrained...
We use our Minivan with the back seats stripped out. Then we put down every imaginable absorbant thing that we are willing to throw out, with cardboard under it.
We are lucky in that our only Buck, Frederick isn't very "bucky". He doesn't pee on himself, so you only get that natural musky...
I can't answer the vaccine questions but as to when you'll know for sure she's pregnant...
go to your calendar and mark off 150 days from 3 weeks ago. Sometime in about there you'll be sure. (Of course give or take a week or two)
Your only other option is a blood test or ultrasound with a...
cmjust, I read your quote "It's not rocket surgery" and had to laugh because that exact quote is on my shirt right now. Are you perhaps from North Carolina????

Hi Scooter,
We got our goats to clear pasture. Of course we have 17 acres 10 of which are good, growing pasture.
Eventually we hope to raise meat goats to sell to the growing local hispanic population. Right now we are just really happy with our pygmies.
We don't milk mostly because we...
You need to think about how much space you have to keep them. That will go to size of goat you need. Unless you have other pasture animals to keep the goat company you'll need at least two. Goats are herd animals and it will get lonely if it is a solo goat.
Solo/lonely goats = Noise, escape...
I'm going to put my energy here into saying what an amazing daughter you have. In her mid teens she went her own way and went with a dairy goat when the crowd was going meat.
She's still active as a senior in 4H. She's taking amazing care of her animal, working it and keeping it fit, tame...
We'd heard all kinds of stuff. It's OK to breed a billy to his daughter but not his grand daughter etc....
Our Vet however says "just say no" to line breeding. I think the answer to your question there comes in with the friend who is a top breeder of show champions.
If you study the...
I would guess that she did have failure to thrive. Probably some metabolic disorder that you would never have known about or a thyroid disorder.
Telling your kids has got to be the worst. How old is he? My daughter has been away at camp this week and two of our goats kidded, we lost one of...
You should wait until they are a year to 18 months to breed them. If they will be a year old then it should be Ok. What kind of goats are they? Some goats are seasonal breeders so you might not be able to breed her until next August. Pygmies can breed year round so you could breed her as...
