Congratulations on the buckling! So glad it turned out well!
thank you!!Congratulations on the buckling! So glad it turned out well!
Thank you! And thanks for sharing your story! My next doe is due to kid May 1st! I can only hope it’ll go smoothly.Congratulations on a job well done (inspite the lunacy of the previous owner! ) And a belated welcome to BYH.
I joined back in 2014, after we bought our 5 acres of heaven, in NE Texas, to start our goat herd. We started with 4 Nigerian Dwarf wethers, that were gifted to us, by a very generous BYH member. She told me she had a “bumper crop of wethers” that year, and she thought those four boys would help get me started learning about how to raise goats. She was so right! At the same time we bought two Maremma LGDs, so they also learned how to guard goats while we learned how to raise them. Win-win!
After a year, we bought two bred LaMancha does, from another member, here on BYH, who is 3-1/2 hours north of us. You will never forget your first kidding. It is a life changer!!!
I bought a couple more does, milked them for a couple years, and made mozzarella cheese, butter, yogurt and milk kefir. Then, I learned that I am allergic to goat milk (well, I’m also allergic to cowl’s milk). So, I sold my dairy goats and started raising Myotonic Meat Goats. We now have ten goats. Once you have raised goats, you are hooked and can’t just stop!!! They are like chocolate covered g-nats! Once you have one, you can’t stop! You just keep going!!
Yes, I plan on keeping her for another year or two and probably retaining one of her doelings next year to replace her eventuallyLooks sooner than later for kids.
Is she a keep to milk one?
