Who else wants to join the 5K (Kid) club? I'm thinking about starting one!
JK... really.. But who else has had a doe drop 5 kids at one time? I knew she was huge, but I didn't expect that many!
My first timer ND Doe had 5 kids yesterday. Everyone thought I was doing an April fools joke! But no!
1 buckling and 4 doelings! How's that ratio! (The tiny b&w and the tri color are bottle babies now)
There was some difficulty with her labor, 2 were born breech (my hands were too big to push in and turn), one of those was a huge buckling that I had to help pull out. The rest were delivered fine except the last one, she came out after a few hours, I thought it was some of the birthing stuff and then it moved! I never scrambled so fast in my life! But I got her cleared out and dried. Mom didn't seem too interested in her, I think she was just worn out. Last night I watched mom sort through her babies and reject the two smallest kids. They are now in the house and doing good so far. I've been milking colostrum for the babies in house and now starting to mix it with whole milk. Gave all the kids a bo-se shot and extra probi's and vit b for the two inside. So far the bottle babies are ok. The last one refused the bottle until today finally.
I brought the vet out to check mom over and got some bo-se from him. He gave her a pain killer and Bo-se and he gave me bottle to treat the kids and lambs due next month....and I told him all the things I had done pre and post labor for her and he said I was right on track. So thanks to all the info I've gleaned off this site, mom is doing really well.
