7 wk old male breed?

I personally knew of a female goat (pygmy cross belonging to my neighbor) that kidded at 7 months.... so ... yes they can conceive at just a couple of months old.

Wow. That can't be healthy. I'll keep my eye on this little guy...But I'm hoping we can make it just a few more weeks and he can go to his forever home without any problems here.

@ragdollcatlady when do you need to separate your boer bucklings?

I don't see any serious interest in breeding until maybe 5 or 6 months (generally closer to 8 months), but I use the 3-4 month old rule in general. If I have girls are coming into heat, i'll go with 3 months, but bucklings on their moms for longer is so much better for their growth for meat animals.

I've been told several times of 8 month old Nigerian does kidding, but haven't seen it myself.

Remembered yesterday that we DO know someone who's 7.5 month old Nigerian doe kidded!

Can't believe I forgot about that. She heard that it could happen but didn't think much of it. She was mortified when the doeling kidded!

Just another thing to be worried about. He will be re-homed the weekend of 3/23. I'm not sure we can accommodate him being separated right now. We're having enough trouble keeping my nasty hormonal buck away from everyone.

OK...All I want are girls! They get along well, and can't impregnate each other.

And I highly doubt that a 7 wk female can GET pregnant? But I'll ask here just so I'm not assuming.

He's not trying to do anything to the older ladies. He likes them young

I just don't need little man throwing his moves out there and ending up with unwanted pregnancies.

My little guy is starting to mount my other babies. He is a nubian/boer cross.....hope he cant breed at 3 months...should I worry? I have a doe that is 3 months also. And could he breed his momma now? I know she is in heat. Or was. I was playing with the babies the other day and I had the buck tied up behind the barn....and i noticed all of the sudden one of my does wasnt there with me....then the horror! She had went to the buck. . So I dont know. Should I worry yet about the little one getting her?

YES! You should worry! Many goats are able to breed and be bred by 3 months and some as young as 8 weeks! Strongly suggest you get that buck firmly and completely separated from any/all does... like post haste. Should you choose to weather him, even after that, he'll still have potentially "live ammo" for up to 4-6 weeks after.

Oh no im keeping him for a new sire. Goodness. It maybe to late already! I know the one i talked about in the 1st post i did is viable. The one tied up for just a few minutes until i could put him up. Just didnt expect her to go to him. She usually beats him up. I tried to contact the company to get an olor but couldnt get them to reply so i was afraid to order. Right now i dont have a buck pen. I let the girls and babies out in the morning and put the buck up. Guess we gonna have to get one building one.

Well, he may have assumed his "future duties" a tad early... Guess you'll know for sure one way or the other in about 5 months, give or take a week or so.
