The meds are all from the vet. Certainly could be worms but I would think you would have seen clumpy or loose stool. Alpacas/llamas usually show worms with clumpy or loose stool. They don't normally stay beans if they are that full of worms. I haven't used Cydectin on alpacas but just because we use Ivomec here and it still works. I would follow what the locals suggest doing since different things work in different parts of the country.

I'm not sure why the briars but maybe that is a local thing that works. If he is that weak, then you will probably have to syringe the electrolytes into him. Also, I would do B Complex and not just B12. You should be able to get B Complex at the feed store.

I'll keep trying on the meds.

I think the briars are just to entice him to eat.

I think the man is wrong abt the worms. His stools are normal. I don't mind trying anything at this point. If I'm going to get meds I'm going to have to leave him alone for a long while.

I don't know what to do. It looks too late. I just don't get it when he was fine yesterday still trying to I'd that tree.

I do wish I could get banamine.

His resps are abt 55 or 60 per min. He breathes in two stages ... I think it's because he's distressed and or in pain. I have to keep running the other animals away when I'm with him. If I'm not right there they don't want to come over and the female is keeping then away.

He can't drink. I held up hid head and gave him a drop or two at a time from my fingers. He can swallow -- he dud twice. After that he makes a sort of running motion with his legs. So they are not limp and he can move them. I dunno if it's voluntary thho

I'd happily go get him whatever he

Maybe it's the tree. Zanthoxylum hirsutum -- called a toothache tree caz it is supposed to numb if leaves or bark are chewed.

I did find a bit of green in his mouth that looks like bitten but nit swallowed. It looks like a tender ground plant tho, not a leaf from tree. I can't be psoitive tho. Just a small bit.

Calling vet back.

Probably be best to call the vet. It sounds like giving him some activated charcoal might be in order. Also, if you can get him into a sitting position and put hay bales or something around him to keep him upright. It isn't good for camelids to be laying down for long periods of time. If you could get a feeding syringe or dosing syringe to get things down his throat that would be good but just be sure that he is swallowing and it doesn't go into his lungs.

Thanks Karen.

Sigh ... No info coming. Vet is out for the next hour now. I called poison control and they said there are essential oils in that tree that at worst would cause minor mouth irritation in humans. Nobody knows about llamas.

I dunno ... If the cydectin could save him I'd do it. But I'm worried about stressing him with a med he doesn't necessaily need to save his life while he's so very fragile. I'll probably try the charcoal. Surely someone closer should have it. I'll call my cat vet. Thanks for letting me know abt the position. I'll try to get him up. What about his neck tho? He can't support it at all. Let it lie to the front? Doesn't sound right?

Thanks again very much. I can't tell you how much I do NOT want to lose him out of all the livestock. I've been working with him and he's just such a dream. It's hard to compose myself enough to take care of him.

It is ok if his neck is stretched out front. It just isn't good for the rumen to be laying down.

I probably won't be online for a while. I have a problem now myself. One of the pregnant girls has been going to the poop pile a lot and that is not normal. So I'm hoping I don't have a twisted uterus here. But the vet will be out in about 40 minutes and we will find out.

I sure hope your little guy does ok. I just can't believe no one has banamine on hand. That would probably really help.
