I'm kinda freaking out!!!

I have a teeny little urban farm with two nigerian dwarf girls. One is going to kid within the next couple days I think! It's our first time. I think we're ready but man I'm nervous!

What is making you nervous? Here are some things you can do.

Get a birthing kit ready.
Towels, forceps, Water, bulb syringe for suctioning little mouths and noses, gloves, soap, stethoscope, bucket to carry it all in. Treats for the goat. Treats for you. A camera. A checklist of things to do in an emergency. Your vet's phone number. A halter, some rope, a blanket. a drench - premade for Mama (redcell, probiotic, minerals, molasses, vitamin B-12, vitamin E, some nutritional yeast), and a shot of bo-se. Have some Pen G on hand, just in case. And if your Vet will give you some - Banamine, in case you need it, with instructions on when to use it.

Also, have on hand some collostrum replacer and a baby nipple and bottle, if mamma has trouble or you need to get some into baby for any reason in an emergency as well as an empty bottle to milk into if Mama has trouble feeding her baby or is sick and you have to milk her to feed her baby.

Make sure you have looked at lots of pics online.
Are you familiar with the signs of impending birth?

Mucous plug shows. (OOky stringy mucous dripping out her bottom).
Udder is bagged up and tight.
She is pacing around and making a nest.
She is either clingy and noisy OR
Quiet and standoffish
ligaments are loose and soft.
Hunched posturing.

Print off some pictures from a good website that has clear pictures so you can compare them.

Then just relax.

Birth is usually routine, it's usually easy because mamma goat usually does all the work. It's usually exciting and rewarding and wayyyy cool.

Queen Mom gave you some really good advise.

I have never been in situation yet, hoping one day to be, but all I can say is try to relax. Your nervousness will be felt by the pending Mom. All animals feel our moods. If you can't be calm for yourself, be for her.

She will probably shock you with an easy birth. But know what to look for and what it looks like, as Queen Mom advised, will help you if it turns out not to be easy.

Will be thinking of all of you here in New Jersey. :fl

And can't wait to see your First Arrival to your Little Urban Farm. :)
