Sentry, Baymule’s Livestock Guard Dog RIP 11-11-24

Sentry was ill once again with a mysterious illness that the vets have never been able to identify. He died Monday November 11, 2024.

I have fought for him, beginning with hip dysplasia surgery when he was only 9 months old. He nearly died 2 years ago from sickness that the vets couldn’t figure out what was killing him. He pulled through and recovered. He had another episode of it a year ago and the vets suggested it could be some kind of autoimmune disease. Whatever it is, this time he didn’t make it.

He has been such a good dog, in a body that didn’t work for him. He had such heart, loved me fiercely, adored my granddaughters and loved his work. I’m grieving but grateful that he came into my life.

I am so sorry! I didn't see the change in the journal name until today, so I was expecting another Sentry turtle story, not this. Sentry was a big blessing to you and to everyone who knew him. He fought the good fight, he worked hard, he loved hard as only a dog can, and now he has earned his rest. He will forever be in our hearts.

Yesterday I lost it. I’ve been trying to keep it together but the dam broke. I bawled, sobbed and the tears rolled. Where was my huggy boy? When BJ died and I finally got the strength to make it to the sheep barn, I spent hours there. Sentry was right by my side. I hugged him while tears rolled down my face and he licked them off my face. He pressed himself against me trying to comfort me and I squeezed him to absorb all his love.

Yep, Sentry is BJs dog now. I miss them. Yesterday I grieved for both of them.

@Kiki im so sorry that your friend is gone. What love there is wrapped up in a dog suit. What pure devotion, we can only hope to love with such pureness of heart like a dog loves with every cell in his body. Big hugs to you my friend.
