I know I've seen it somewhere, and it's a curiosity question, because my buck is proven, but at what age can you start introducing him to the ladies?

I've read that 6 months is the youngest you should attempt to breed them... with most folks recommending 8 months. But I'm not positive if that was both the does and bucks... or just regarding the does.

Cheers!

My NZW buck was almost a year old before he took notice of the ladies. So far he has bred 3 does and has had 3 healthy litters with between 5 and 11 kits. The first doe attacked him and freaked him out so I held her and now he won't approach a doe unless I'm holding her.

I'm afraid I would have to cull that buck. I need a buck that can get the job done right without me having to babysit him. Especially if it took him a year to take notice.

If we were breeding to make money that would make sense. We only breed for our girls for 4-H and the buck is a pet so it's no biggie.
