Hello from beautiful Kentucky. I started my hobby farm last year with sheep (babydoll Southdown, Harlequin, and Shetland), a guard llama, two cows and too many chickens to count. Chickens were my gateway animal… a year after my first chickens I bought a farm. Whoops.

I am also an avid gardener and love creating my food forest. I left my mature garden with my old house and am starting again on a much much larger area in the new digs.

Pretty sure I’ll have lambs this year and absolutely sure I won’t know who the father is because it turns out that I’m terrible at keeping rams away from ewes in heat. I’m hoping to breed for fiber as well as develop the harlequin breed further in the US. I feel like no matter how many books and blogs I read I’ll never feel like I know what I’m doing with these sheep :)

Welcome, glad you found us here!

Thanks for the photos, too. I'm a sucker for pictures.

I love Kentucky, thought of retiring there until our home circumstances changed. It still has a piece of my heart. ❤️

Welcome from East Texas! Your farm looks lovely and so much fun! Your fiber journey will be fun and exciting. I’ve never done fiber animals, I have Katahdin hair sheep. Your lamb looks comfy on that riding lawnmower. If you hear it crank up, he’s probably gone mowin’ on his own!

You will learn as you go, some really smart people here, so ask questions. How many acres do you have?

I’m not even from here but it swept me away and I knew this is where I wanted to live and eventually retire.

I have just under 8 acres. I’m hoping to secure an unused plot next to mine with many more acres mostly because that way I’ll secure the gorgeous sunset views from my home. My LGDs have already claimed it as their own so I’ll have to see if that stands up in a real estate claim ;)
