I need the best and cheapest ideas on how to keep theses new bucks in the pen, I am freaking out right now because they have jumped over my fence and are now in with my girls. Gracie is due in a month, Choula is only around 6 mos,
my girls can't get out they are too small the boys jump and discovered they can smash down the tall fence soo should I go buy welded wire cattle panels or a hot line ????
I am so worried I want to keep the boys but I DO NOT want them together.
The boys are going to be part of my Boer goat breeding program.
My neighbor tells me that she kept her buckj with the girls all the time. I know you guys are going to yell at me if I do that
Question 1. welded wire panels or hot line?
2. If the boys have horns and buck the girls will it kill the baby?
3. For all that havehorned goats , when the girls are pregnant do they still ram each other???

I would do a hot line.

I'm not sure about the horn stuff. All mine are dehorned.

Sounds like loads of fun at your house.

Even dehorned goats can hit a pregnant doe hard enough sometimes and cause her to lose the kids. Hot wire would be worth a try.

Yep havein the time of my life this morning ;)
I called got all the info on hot line, I let all the goats out to wander around thinking if my girls cannot escape at least if they are out they can run away from them. The boys seem to follow them so when I try to put them up we will see how fun it is. Thanks for the reply.

I'd go with a hot line, they will find a way around anything else.
2. If the boys have horns and buck the girls will it kill the baby?
It could, but I have found that the bucks do not bother the does in that way. It is the other things that they do that can cause a termination.

Yep they still ram each other. All of the time, but it seems to get less as they progress into their pregnancy, but it never really stops.

I do keep a buck with the girls all of the time, I will take the "ready to pop" girls out and put them in a kidding area, but they go right back in the mix after 2 days. That is my way and a lot of people that use their goats for supplemental income won't agree with that, but they don't want to take chances and I understand that.

Update--- I got the hot wire, he jumped it until it came out of the insulator. The next morning he was at the girls pen waiting for me to let them in. So feeling defeated ,I did.
The boys overall aren't mean or too skiddish. they follow Gracie and since she follows me I guess it's ok until I can get a girl for them. We all had a nice long walk out into the pasture and i took them to my neighbors pond and then they all followed me back home.
I even got the smaller boy to eat some boss out of my hand.
So my Plan is to find a girl for them and keep my mini's only with mini's. my neighbor asks me several times a day if I have excepted the fact they won't stay away. NOOOO.
I want meat goats and mini nubians so how am I to keep these 2 breeds seperate or is it Impossible????

Yes it is possible, almost every breeder of purebred stock keeps the bucks in their own pens. How tall is your fence?

Some parts of it are like 4 feet and others are about 5ish.
He is massive and I am amazed at him just lightly leaping over the fence.
he smashed my 5 foot fence where my girls are it is just standard 5 foot thin fencing.
His weight smashed it.
If I have a girl in there do you think it will keep them in their pen?
I want mini milkers just for me not alot of them.

I would move his pen to an area where he can't see the does, and use cattle panels and t-posts. You might hotwire the top, but you probably won't need too once he is away from the girls. Does he have a buddy?

His pen is out of view but not out of hearing range. I have t-posts and cattle panels and I put hot wire around the top and yes he has a buddy. This is why I think I will have to get him some does to keep him happy NEXT DOOR!!! He has been very well behaved
considering he is a stray and has been wondering around our area for months. I got him to eat some boss from my hand this morning.
Thanks for all the suggestions :)
