That's high but she's banking on little availability from others. Normally $30 ish... $40 if rare breed.

Still waiting for this darned farm to reply 😞

Here we go!
I'm going to try this breed & see if the descriptions are all sales hype or if they are actually a sustainable option.

I'm picking up 5 'off heat' chicks at the spring Gilmanor swap meet in a couple of weeks.
But... one of my backyard mutt ladies went broody. 🤗 I let her sit on the 4 eggs she chose & decided to start trolling FB groups to see if I could find any cheap hatching eggs nearby. I was determined to find 'affordable' since she broke 2 of hers within the first week & it was likely that she would either give up & leave them halfway or break them before they were done.

I actually found a lady that said she had Breese & was willing to part with a dozen eggs for $10. I didn't see any picts of her flock... didn't even pause to ask if her birds were isolated to ensure they were purebred 🙄 just jumped at the chance.
I picked up the eggs Sun afternoon and Monday evening I went out just after dark to move her & her remaining eggs out of the nasty smelly nest box & into a small dog crate. She pitched a FIT & I was sure I had blown it. I finally caught her and put her in with the 2 questionable eggs, closed the door & left her in the dark for an hour.
Around 9:30 I went back out with the hatching eggs. She was settled on her little nest so I slowly slipped the others around her & stood outside the door to see what she'd do. After a while she started tucking them under. I left her closed in for the night.
This morning I let her out. She seemed really confused after her breakfast & a drink. The nest box was sitting outside the coop (waiting to be cleaned) & even though her eggs were in plain sight I the crate inside the coop she kept running in & out of the coop, jumping up on the roosts, jumping on top of the old nest box, etc.
Again, I thought that I may have blown it.... but after about half an hour she finally went back to the crate & settled herself into the nest.
Fingers crossed 🤞!
IF her 2 remaining original eggs are still growing, they should hatch middle of next week.
My plan is to snatch them & put them under heat in the house. I'm hoping that she will stay with the remaining eggs.

Last update.... when I put the smelly nest box outside last night, the ceramic eggs were still in it. This morning something had tried to EAT them!!! Can you see those tooth holes!?
