I have always heard that you feed 1/2 per5 pounds body weight of a rabbit in pellets a day ?

At the moment I feed my rabbit who is about 4 1/2 pounds 1/4 a day, unlimited hay and a cup and a half of veggies, does that sound okay ?

Sounds like a balanced diet for a rabbit to me. Also diet depends on how active your rabbit is. Do they get exercise outside their cage? Exercise and a carefully planned diet, like yours will IMHO give a rabbit a long and healthy life. :)

eta: Along with plenty of clean water. :)

I feed my woolies 1/2 cup a day and as much timothy hay they want. If your bunny wont clean it all up, however, feed it less.

A good way to test if is food is ok is to check his condition. Can you feel bones?

Yeah his cage is big he can run/jump etc . and he gets out to run every other day .

He eats it all,I feed him in mid day and its gone before dark, except the hay . His coat looks good and he looks healthy but I think I may need to increase the pellets to 1/2 a cup ? He dosent weigh much but you cant feel any of his bones . :/

I would suggest gradually increasing his feed and see if he clean it up. If not, than go back two 1/4. I just talked to a friend who breeds mini rexes, and that is what she suggested as she feeds her bunnies 1/2 a cup.

Okay, thanks . I will try that , I used to have him on 1/2 a cup but then he got over weight . Im not sure how though,he dosent get any treats , sometimes he gets an apple slice or a baby carrot but he dosent get much .

Also , I feed him kaytee supreme and that has made his fur look great and keep him at a good weight,he just seems a little light . Maybe its just bone structure and the breed ? I had a lop that was about 12 pounds, but wasnt over weight ,,, I guess its possible ?

Holland lops are supposed to be stocky. They are supposed to be big boned. Mini Rexes are more on the sleek side I believe. So I think you are right to state about structure and breed. You will see a difference between both because they are supposed to be different. I agree that as long as your rabbit is not showing ribs, coat is bright and shiny, eyes alert, your rabbit is getting his proper diet. :)

All rabbits are not created equal. Some fatten easier than others. Run your finger along the backbone. you should be able to feel bones but they have sort of a padded feel. If the bones are too sharp it is underweight. If you have trouble feeling the bones it is too fat. Adjust your feed accordingly.
