For some reason I read that as "1 lbs of food for every lb of rabbit" and thought I'd gone crazy! I'd go through half a bag on just my two NZ haha! We feed about a cup to the NZ, about 1/2 to the Lionheads and about 1/4 to the Dwarf Hotots but they're all individual. We start with more than we think they'll eat then pull it back after we see how much they don't eat. They get free choice Timothy hay everyday and a papaya tablet or yogurt treat every other day. We check their spines all the time because we're paranoid about Coccidia ever since we were sold rabbits with it, so we always know our rabbits are in good body condition.

I have always heard that you feed 1/2 per5 pounds body weight of a rabbit in pellets a day ?

At the moment I feed my rabbit who is about 4 1/2 pounds 1/4 a day, unlimited hay and a cup and a half of veggies, does that sound okay ?
What exactly do you mean by "veggies"? If it is greens, then good. If you mean like carrots, etc. , that is too much. Those types of things should be a small portion of their diet. Also, if it IS greens, then he is filling up on them and eating less pellets. Back off on the greens, like say half of what you feed now, and increase your pellets to 1/2 cup. Try that for a while and see what it does.

This is a kinda old post and I dont feed him this anymore, but by veggies I ment ,I cut up lettuce, celery and a bell pepper, bok choy etc . Combine them all and give him a cup of it a day . And he gets 1/4 pellets and hay at all times . But he usually just gets lettuce instead of all the other vegetables

Have you tried giving him the kind of greens he would get in the wild? Like dandelion leaves, plantain, clover, grass, etc.? That sort of stuff is better for them than store bought veggies...There is a ton of stuff that grows wild as weeds that rabbits love to eat. There is a sticky on the www.rabbittalk.com forum and the www.homesteadingtoday.com forums about safe plants...
