Just got back from a wonderful conference on grass fed beef to find TWO sick steers! They appear to be unrelated, totally different symptoms for each.....so now I am anxiously waiting for the vet to get here, while of course compulsively checking them and the rest of the herd!
The first patient seems straightforward: he has a soft fist sized swelling just under his left ear....I am thinking an abscess or infection that probably just needs to be lanced and drained....he has some diarrhea as well but is still fairly bright and eating....
The second I am more concerned with, he is standing with his head tilted to the side, very lethargic, not eating or drinking, and seems to be shivering. My first thought for him had been ear mites or infection, but his ears look clean, and these more recent symptoms are very concerning....
Anyone ever encountered anything like this? I am going stir crazy!
