My mare is due the beginning of April and my son's pony is also due any time now.

I'm NERVOUS!!! This will be my first foaling experience (but her 5th).

Here's a pic of mama to be:

We have our first due in April and I have been told that you will go to the stable/barn in the morning and there will be a foal. Hoping that is true:) I have goats that I have to monitor 24/7 so am hoping that what I am being told about horses being easy kidders/birthers is true:)

PS - your mare is gorgeous:) Should be a beautiful baby regardless. Good luck:)

Thank you! I had been drooling over her for more than a year so it seems surreal to actually have her here now.

I really hope I go up to the barn and she has a foal by her side, no problems. That would be amazing and probably save me a heart attack.

She IS beautiful! :) (And really cool pic with the kangaroo... you sure don't see that kind of thing up here in northern canada!)

What a pretty mare! I take it you're in Australia, by the kangaroo. What kind of mare is she?

That is exactly how it happened for us this past Friday!:D

We went to feed and water our two mares and up pops a new foal that was resting on the ground!

It is our first experience with foaling too and I was so thankful everything went so smoothly.

I will tell you that you need to put iodine on the umbilical stump and give the baby a tetanus shot within the first 24hours.

Also watch that the foal poops within the first 24 hours or else you will need to give it an enema.

This is what my vet told me...

Good luck to everybody. Foaling is a very special experience. Our foal was born on 1/27/11 so he is older now but still cute as a button. Beautiful mare by the way!
