@andrew113 have you learned anything on this issue yet? Legal or not?
I have read that high methane emissions are caused by CAFOs, not cows per se (see https://www.iatp.org/blog/201904/latest-agriculture-emissions-data-show-rise-factory-farms ... "...farming systems can result in dramatically different emission levels. The latest EPA data indicate that the increases in agriculture GHGs are linked primarily to the expansion of industrial systems of production for crops and animals"). When cattle (or any animal) are part of a healthy, mutually-sustaining system with both animals and plants involved, emissions are much lower. What I would love to see is these vegan environmentalist types going after the CAFOs. They are a true blight on our environment. There were vast herds of bison in this country at one time- more than there are now cattle. Somehow the bison farts didn’t heat up the earth. This cow fart thing is incredibly stupid. Give up red meat? Not happening. Another ignorant piece of attempted control that will result in businesses closing and people’s jobs disappearing. No more fast food hamburgers! Call your representatives and scream at them, write them and complain loudly. This has already gone too far. It was funny to start with, not laughing anymore, I’m mad.
That is correct. On my little farm (8 acres) we have sheep, horses, chickens and feeder pigs. The pigs pen is roomy and big enough for them to have a potty place, lounging area, a 12’x12’ shelter, sunshine and shade. Dung beetles take care of most of their poop. The sheep have pasture and a barn. Dung beetles help bury their pellets. The poop returns to the soil. We dig out the barn periodically and spread in the garden or on the pastures. Chickens roam, scratching apart dung, keeping the litter in the sheep barn turned. The horses are likewise visited by dung beetles, a pile of manure is usually broken down in a day. We raise Cornish Cross chickens for meat. They are in pens that are moved daily to fresh grass.I have read that high methane emissions are caused by CAFOs, not cows per se (see https://www.iatp.org/blog/201904/latest-agriculture-emissions-data-show-rise-factory-farms ...
