Hi everybody!
I recently bought two purebred Nigerian girls, and they are both due the same day in February. I am curious how many Nigerian kids a goat usually has FIRST time. :)
Thank you for reading!

First timers usually twins.

Twins are, in my opinion, the best births. Small enough to slide out easily, few enough that they shouldn't get tangled up when coming out, and one kid per teat.

Good luck! Very exciting!

Are you planning on milking the does?

I agree, twins are so easy! Yes, I am planning on making butter with it. :)
We have a Boer doe, and she kidded quads the other day. They are all bottle babies now because the mom is not producing any milk at all. She is also looking very sick. Any advice?

In that case... time to call the vet.

Your possibilities are:

1. If she isn't producing milk AND looking bad, and has a high fever she probably has some retained placenta, or a retained dead kid.

She needs a vet to clean out her uterus and put her on antibiotics.

2. If she isn't running a fever.... the other most likely cause is that the kidding brought on a huge parasite bloom... If she does NOT have a fever, then parasites are more llikely. In this case she needs iron, probiotics, vitamin B, and the vet needs to figure out exactly which worms so you use the correct drugs to kill the worms.

3. She could also have a calcium deficiency... that would keep her from producing milk... and probably kill her. She would need a calcium shot from the vet.

But at this point...

If she has choice 1, 2, or 3... you need a vet.

We will definitely check with our vet then. :)
The owner of my Nigerians also told me that she is not sure if this doe in the picture on the left is due next week, or next month. But either one. The doe on the right, she says, in for sure due next month. What do you think?

I don’t own goats, so I’m no help, but those two sure are cute!
