Baby Escape! WAS: Delila Kidded

For those of you who don't know, I ended up in the hospital July 15-20th from a horsebackriding accident. Today, we were surprised with Delila's new doeling. Here she is:

Now what to name her? Her dad, Oreo, is a LaMancha/Oberhaasli and Delila is a small Alpine doe. The little one has dad's ears and most of his colors. Thankfully the little girl waited for me to be a bit better.

Now, that makes 9 doelings and 2 bucklings out of Oreo breeding. Yes, he's a keeper!

No, I don't have a particular naming convention for my goats. I don't know what I will call her yet. I suspect she will name herself or the people who buy her will name her.

She and her half-sister named Mocha whom I kept are almost the exact same color. Another half sister (the one in my avatar) is colored exactly like her dad. This color is a popular one!

I was very glad that I was home and she didn't have a difficult birth. I moved the two back with the herd today because I can't keep them in the horse trailer forever and with the forecast calling for hot and dry weather, that would be disastrous. Even though Delila is small, she can be fierce to the others, especially with those horns. So, I think the baby will be fine with mom. They've had two full days to bond in the horse trailer (it's big, private, and protected them against elements and predators), so I think mom and baby will do okay with the other goats in the pen.
