Hey I'm new here and I'm not sure if I posted this in the right forum, but we had a baby goat Born Sunday evening (right after the saints won :celebrateWHODAT). So she's only 3 days old and the temperature is supposed to drop below freezing. We only have the baby and her mama . They are in the barn with plenty of hey, feed and water but I was wondering if I need to do anything else for Them. I'm thinking about getting the baby a little dog sweater.

Hi! Welcome to BYH! Congrats on the new kid! Must see photos of the little gal! It sounds like you have good shelter from the wind and cold for them. How does baby seem? Is she acting cold? If I think my babies are cold, I will put sweaters on them. Plus, I like the excuse to put sweaters on because they're super cute!

Ours were born 10/7, twins. They have each other and the barn for heat. We did a heated barrel for a few days when they were born then turned the light off. They still have the barrel and get in it. Serves several purposes: contains the heat better and offers protection from the adults and helps to keep them from getting laid on/smothered. Their dam lays right in front of the barrel when they are in it.

Greetings and welcome to BYH from NE TX! So glad you joined us. That surely doesn't appear to be a baby goat being held in your arms in your avatar ;) Please do share some pics when you can! You didn't mention breed so not sure what size the kid is... If you have an old pair of heavy socks (like maybe a pair of hunting socks from your DH :hide) you can cut out the toe end and a couple of front leg holes and put that on the kid. Or a small pet sweater. Just something to help hoild in body heat while it's cold. I'd take it back off during the day when it's sunny and not freezing though. There's a wealth of info, knowledge and experience shared in the multitude of threads. Browse around and see what interesting stuff you can find. By all means post away when the desire strikes you, especially if you have questions (provide as much detail/info as possible and pictures truly help)... With all the great folks here, generally someone will respond in no time at all. Please make yourself at home!

PLEASE put at least your general location in your profile. It could be very important if/when you ask for or offer help or advice. You know, climate issues and such. I recommend at least your state as most folks won't be able to figure out where if you put anything more specific (county, town, street, etc) by itself. Old folks like me will never remember from this post & look there first. To add it, mouse hover over Account top right and a drop down will appear. Click on Personal Details and scan down. You'll see the spot for Location. Then go to the bottom and save changes. Thanks! Hope you enjoy the site!
