Why are goats shaved down for showing? I love my girls all furry! Do they have to be shaved? Don't they get cold at this time of year?
Sorry, I just don't know anything about the goat show world. :hu
The judges can't "see" the goat under all that hair, so they are clipped. With cold weather coming now, we don't shave them as close, but enough. The shaved ones have poly/spandix tube coats to help keep them warm until their own natural coat grows out again.

Thanks lilhil! The does don't look too bad but I hate the bucks being shaved down! I love hairy animals! I'm sure the showing is fun though. I love my ND's!

Hubby likes the furry look, too. :D But, you gotta do what you gotta do. Here's a pic of my junior doe, Love Song, practicing for her show debut.

Congrats on your wins :) :)
Your goats look very nice

Seeing Alabama is a state, shouldn't it be the AL State Fair not National??
...and still trying to wrap my head around goats there being cold and needing clothes! From my MN perspective that just seems odd. What are you at for weather there, are you in any elevation that makes it colder?
We are in a warm stretch here, it's in the 50's, t-shirt weather!
