My babies are starting to look a bit dirty. We've had rain all week and their knees and haunches are getting stained. Is it ok to give them a bath or just brush them good? I have been brushing them but brushing doesn't get it all.

We've had Nick and Molly now for a month and we are so in love with them! Such dears! but Nick is a real scamp. This afternoon while having lunch, my DH looked out the window and saw Nick and Molly looking back at him! They figured out how to unlatch the gate. Now we have the latch locked. They've found the goat cam and re-aimed it, plus Nick licked it clean.

Check out the goat cam at www.n4dbi.com or at Ustream.tv

I'm glad you asked this question! My two little bottle babies are getting dirty as well and I was thinking of giving them a bath, but wasn't sure exactly if I should or not. What would you bath a goat with anyway?? :hu

Hi,

Yes, you can give your goats a bath. We have some goats with very long hair so I tend to use horse products with detanglers in the formula on the goats as a finish or cream rinse. Comb/brush them out well first. We live in Nebraska so in colder months if they need a bath We do it in the barn and dry them off and leave them in the barn for a few days after that just to make sure they are totally dry. If your goats are short haired...you can still use the hair dryer or just towel dry them- esp. now in the warm summer months.

Dog shampoo and conditioners are okay to use as well. We have some that hate to be washed...and we also have a buck that is 6 - that loves it! Most of the time, he knows that it must mean a show is around the corner...and he does love to show off...for anyone willing to give him any time and attention at all!

Good Luck setting up your beauty shop!

Would the Mane and Tail shampoo (stuff for horses but heard of people using too) work?

Well, they LOVE being brushed and are ok getting their hooves trimmed. They don't seem to like being wet, though. They have short, white hair. We'll give it a go and see what happens. Our dogs HATE being brushed, groomed and washed, so I have a feeling giving the goats a bath will be easier.

Let me know how it goes! I will wait until I hear the outcome before I attempt it. :gig

I've been thinking of giving our 2 lil wethers baths, but it's sooooo dusty here that I think it would be pointless. It's like washing my car, I live 4/10 of a mile down a DIRT road. It lasts about 1 day looking decent. :(

I have washed the legs/rear of my littlest one, when she had poop problems.
