Ewenique lambed January 14, 2025
Twin boys.

She just lambed today July 25, 2025.
Twins 1 boy 1 girl. This old girl just amazes me. The boy is tiny and couldn’t suck. I pulled him, wrapped him in a towel and off to Tractor Supply we went.

Boy was weak and very wobbly. He tried but couldn’t latch on at all. He’s about 1/3 of the size of the ewe who is a big strapping healthy girl.

I saw Sarah at Tractor Supply, she has sheep and was a great help. She got a bag of colostrum and we went to the break room. She warmed water in the microwave and poured 2 ounces in the bottle I brought. She added the colostrum and shook it up.

Boy doesn’t know how to suck, I squeezed droplets in his mouth.

Stopped at the bank and took him in with me. 5 ladies rose simultaneously, AAWWWW……. One lady held him swaying like she was holding a human baby, all were talking baby talk to him and petting him.

Stopped and got gas, he pooped! This is a GOOD sign.

I got him home, Carson enthusiastically licked him all over, Welcome home little brother!! Or was he tasting a future snack?

I put the boy in my laundry basket while I set up the dog kennel. He bleated, hungry?

He kinda sucked, I kinda squeezed, he put down 1 and 3/4 ounce. Terrific! I put him in the kennel and went out to check Ewenique and the girl lamb. They were doing fine.

The boy is sleeping with a full tummy. Normal sized newborn lamb’s tummy is about the size of a walnut. He’s 1/3 the size he ought to be, so he really has a tiny tummy.

I’ll do my best, give him care and love and do all I can to see that he makes it.

Tomorrow I’m invited to a birthday party in Fort Worth. A dear friend’s autistic daughter is turning 25 and she wants me to be there. She gets naming rights for the lamb and of course she will get to bottle feed him. It’s a 3 hour drive, one way. I’ll leave early and be back late, little boy will go with me!

Why the big difference in size between boy and girl?

Even with good care, feed, grass and nutrition, sometimes it’s just like that. Ewenique also bred back fairly soon, kinda an oops breeding. That means she was bred in March after giving birth in January. Certainly doable, it’s called accelerated breeding. I prefer to give my ewes a rest, especially older girls like Ewenique, but it looks like she and Cooper had their own ideas.

Size difference is more common in triplets. I have a ewe, Tiny, that was severely undersized and couldn’t suck. We bottle fed her and she thrived and grew as big as her sisters.
