Granddaughters and I castrated 2 ram lambs today. I told them several days ago that we would castrate lambs.
What’s that?
I cut their testicles off
What are testicles?
Those big hanging down things that let’s the rams be a daddy
Oh….

Next night watching Dr Pol, he castrated a mini donkey and 3 mini horse stallions. They love Dr Pol. They aren’t grossed out by anything.

We castrated Easter’s black head ram and Ewenique’s white ram. Future freezer meat. They asked why those two…..
See Ewenique’s spotted ram next to that white one? If you were buying one, which one would you choose?
The SPOTTED ONE!
Exactly.
Same thing with Easter’s ram lamb. We have a lot of gorgeous ram lambs. The color is there, just got to see how they grow out.

I sat DGD #2 in a chair, caught a lamb and plopped him in her lap, belly up. She wrapped her arms around him. DGD#3 held his back legs apart.

I cut the bottom of his sack off, tossed it over fence, Carson ate it. I fished out the testicles and cut the cord, tossed them over the fence, Carson ate them. Doctored up the wound with purple spray and set him down by his momma.

Same thing with the second one. The girls asked why castrate them.
Because I’m gonna let them grow out about a year, then take them to slaughter and keeping them as rams would be annoying. This way they can run with the ewes and they won’t be trying to breed them.
What’s slaughter?
That’s where they get turned into meat for your freezer.
Ok.

Being straightforward with children, what a wonderful concept. ❤️

They watch Dr Pol with his arm up to his shoulder in a cow’s hind end. They watch him pull calves, sometimes dead. The show is pretty explicit on what a veterinarian does. They are captivated by it, grossed out by nothing. I’ll tell them, I do that to my sheep. They help me a lot when they are here, I make them part of whatever I’m doing.

When Tiny had her triplets, they had just been born when we went outside. We moved them, I sat them in a chair and told them to watch for the afterbirth, and make sure all the lambs sucked.
What’s afterbirth?
The sack the babies grow in, inside their mom. Tiny doesn’t need it anymore, so it will fall out.
I went about getting feed, hay and fresh water for Tiny.
They told me the afterbirth was hanging out, then that it fell to the ground. I buried it.

I told them to stick their finger in the lambs mouths.
My finger?
Yes, like a baby bottle nipple.
The girls caught a newborn, pried their mouth open, stuck their finger in.
Is their mouth warm or cold?
It’s warm!
Then I explained that if a lambs mouth is cold, they are dying and you have a very short time to get them warmed up.

I have a mental picture that they go back to school next week and tell their classmates they cut testicles off 2 lambs. 😃😃😃

You have to know how to cook them. My aunt gave me a bunch once and I boiled them for my dogs. They smelled horrible whie cooking, and the dogs would not touch them! Probably shold have just fed them raw. That experience completely did away with any desire to try them in a restaurant. Of course, I won't eat sushi either.

I’ve had Rocky Mountain Oysters one time in a restaurant in Oklahoma. Sliced thin, dipped in batter and fried. They didn’t have much taste. I don’t know what the big deal is about them.
