Big girl had twins last night, first a big ram, then toes and no labor. I was working in the dark with a headlamp, trying to save the lamb. It was breech and I had to run in the house for a halter and rope. I tied her to a T-post. She fought like a demon, but I was able to reach in, find a hock and pull that leg out. Then I found the other one, pulled that leg out and pulled the lamb. Ewe. Dead.

She and ram lamb are fine this morning. At least I saved the ewe.

So sad about this. The first large one may have delayed the birth so long that the second one couldn't be saved. Working in the dark, alone, made it 5x as hard. For some reason ewes don't like it when you reach inside to pull lambs. ;) Losing a ewe is bad but you have a sale ram for auction. When you get your barn up and have lights, it will be much easier.

DDIL1 texted last night when I posted pix of the bathrooms on the communal family chat site. She said that when DS3 put electricity into her barn and tack shed she was dancing on the moon. True husband love -electricity in the barn!

She is on BYH (Secret Haven Farm) but seldom posts. She has Boer goats and had kids about a month ago. Where are her pictures? Come on and post on here!

@Ridgetop i think you are right. The ram was born covered in yellow gunk, was floppy and took forever to stand. He had a rough birth. He may have delayed the ewe lamb being born. Big Girl lavished care on him until I wondered if he was the only one…….but she was huge! Finally toes, but no contractions. It’s like she gave up. Oh well. I have a ram lamb and saved the ewe. I’m gonna decide to be happy about that.
