I’m tired. Back, arms and shoulders are sore. I guess I’m out of shape. I built a sorta fence today from the lot where the hoop shelter is in front field to the property line fence.

I have some Red River cattle corral panels. They were at the back of the back yard so I dragged them up to the front. @Ridgetop and I were talking last night, WHEN did this stuff get so heavy? I opened the gate to the front field and dragged them inside. I had 9 that weren’t being used elsewhere.

I started with a hog panel because I had one.

I put up 2 panels, T posts on each end of the panels, securely tied with hay string.

IMG_8025.jpeg

I drove Tposts, hung a walk through gate, with lots of hay string of course.

Gate looked pretty good. I didn’t have enough Red River panels, so I closed the gap with—what else? PALLETS!

The sheep wandered up, found the gate and used it. Never mind that there was an opening all the way to the other fence, this is a GATE.

The sheep checked out the panels laying on the ground.

I had panels laid out to the fence. Sheep went back on the field, through the gate.

It took me all day to get this put up. I’ll have to cover the panels with some kind of wire so the lambs can’t walk under it. I have some welded wire, it may be enough. I pounded T posts, dragged panels around, zig-zagged them across the field and tied the whole thing together with hay string.

I have the pins that link them together, but it takes level ground to get the pin sockets to line up and it wasn’t level. Hay string don’t care if it’s level or not.

I can’t work on it tomorrow, I have errands to do, not Thursday, it will be raining. Hopefully Friday morning, after it quits raining, I can get wire on it. Then I can leave the gate to their hoop shelter open and the sheep can use the new Pallet Palace and will be able to access the hay bale. It looks like crap but it will be an improvement for the sheep.

Looks great and more usable pasture for ewes with lambs and covered shelter. The lambs may get out of the corral panels, but they will come back to mamas, and the dogs will protect from predators. Great job! One thing about those panels - they are sturdy. Ours are OLD - bought used 30 years ago and still working great. We got an entire roping arena of panels in a divorce sale. Except for one that the rams' feeder was hung on and the rail weld failed. I wish we could weld. DS3 learned to weld and cud have fixed it but didn't get around to it before returning the panels to us. You were smart to sort of zig zag them too. We didn't drive in any T-posts just zig zagged them to get a quick fence.

Those panels are just like mine (also old style Red River with pins). The new style red river panels have different attachments. The panels can get bent, and other stuff hapens to get them not to line up for the pins other than unlevel ground. The pins are made to fit snugly in the brackets, but you can also use pieces of rebar in smaller diameter. Just remember to bend the top so they dint slip through. (Ask me how I know this! LOL) We actually have a lot of 12" carriage bolts and use them too. We have 2 places where we use them as drive through gates to move hay bales and the pins are a big pain to pt in and take out. I am going to just chain them shut where we open them for access. Easier to open and close but they are still heavy to move.

You need Ibuprofen, Arnica, heating pad, and Blue Bell! :hugs

If it works, who cares what it looks like?

I’m surprised it’s only your back, arms and shoulders that hurt, I’d think your head would explode! 😂
Randy made big forks out of channel iron that slide onto the tractor bucket for moving stuff like those panels. Does your son weld?
Yes he welds, so do I. No welding machine! I want a small one some day for fixing stuff.
I have clamp on forks for my tractor too.
