One Easter Sunday in San Antonio, our beagle ate all the candy out of our Easter baskets while we were at church. I'll never forget Mother saying that this is one more strike against this dog. (she eventually gave him away)

Pooped wrappers and candy for two days.
My first dog "Pooh" had a sweet tooth. I gave her a paper cupcake paper so she could chew off the cake crumbs, and she swallowed it whole. It came out, later. Then a couple years later she ate a two pound bag of candy corn...I found her, like a drunk, lying next to the toilet, moaning. Vet assured me she'd be okay, and she was. A couple years later she ate through a Christmas stocking to devour a one pound chocolate kiss. And then there was the box of chocolates my dad mailed to me...she ate through the corrugated cardboard box and the candy box to reach the chocolates.

She lived to 15 1/2. We found her one afternoon on the kitchen floor, her head in a bag of potato chips. She died happy.

I loved that chow hound.

Oh wow. You guys are talking about dogs stealing food. I trust my collie Clara not to take food off the table. She easily could, but she never has. Until just now. Just before I got to the gingerbread house post.

My son left an unwrapped slice of American cheese on the edge of the counter, walked away briefly and came back to see Clara with it in her mouth! (While I was sitting right here posting on my phone and didn’t notice .😳) He took it away from her.

I couldn’t believe she would do that! Then I keep reading, and you all are posting about dogs stealing food! I guess Clara wanted to be in on it too.

(To be fair to Clara, it is the same cheese I was using to wrap her pills in, so she probably thought Scott meant to give it to her. 🤭)

The Houston news is giddy with excitement over the approaching snow storm, low temperatures and ice! They make it sound like we will never see sunshine again. Yup, a regular ice age!

I have cut off my water. Inconvenient but better than a busted pipe. I have water drawn up in the house and a big black livestock water tub, full and sitting where sunshine can hit it. It had ice one inch thick on it this morning. It’s cold outside, supposed to be ice and snow tonight. I’m not going anywhere!
