I think more often than not when there are herds/flocks that are struggling and it is all ages as well as impacting even the most resistant animal it is best to look at the EGGS! LOL

So many producers especially those that have large flocks/herds don't do this and are always assuming it is barberpole and they end up treating over and over , animals die, animals culled.

I did find it quite fascinating, I am a geek.:D

Absolutely, I know a lot of people who will assume one parasite is causing their problems, when in fact it turns out to be something completely different... which I guess is what the vet is there for ;)

In this case though, when only one animal in the flock has an issue, especially when that animal required a small initial investment, I tend to figure that it will save me money in the long run to just use that animal for meat than to treat her over and over for various other issues throughout her life because I decided to keep weak genetics. Even if she would have been an excellent producer and I was wrong, I'd rather just not take the chance when there is so little to be lost through culling. Just my thoughts.

Agree. Culling is important.
There are a lot of great vets out there BUT there are those that will look at the eyelids and say... nope it's fine. Most vets don't use the FAMACHA card and think they don't need it. Then the goat drops dead and is necropsied - death by wormload or cocci or something completely preventable! I seriously don't get why any farmvet would not run a fecal.

Thankfully none of my vets are like this but they are out there.:\
