Yes, thanks Countrymom, that makes a lot of sense. I do practice a one-rein stop with my horse, but will be sure we're disengaging the hindquarters too.
I wish it would stop raining here so I can ride again! We had such a great ride with the bitless gear that I can't wait to do it again! It really was one of the best rides we've had, a monumental day!
I'm in Pennsylvania, it hasn't rained everyday for a month, but its rained enough to make it really sloppy around here! I live near a creek too so we have some flash floods too. Its stopped finally, but still really ugly outside.
I'm heading out for a muddy ride too. I'll take a photo of my Big Joe all geared up for a fun ride to share with you since you shared your horse photo with me. It is going to be a western day I think.
I am so thankful for less mud than what you all must be experiencing. We took it light today and only worked two horses. We do have one more to work in hand, but that is mainly my daughter's job. We also skipped a lot of the tacking up and just went bareback and bridle less. Well, one is a known bucker so we did keep the bridle for her. She does better in a bit though. It was a fun and very relaxing work session. You can sure feel so much more without all that leather and padding under you.
