It's been a busy few days, but now everything is tarped and roped and screwed and battened down for the winter blast. Got sheet metal screwed to the pallet barn walls, extra plastic on chicken tractors and heat lamps where they are needed. 20s is cold for TX, and with the wind it's VERY cold. Goats and sheep are looking fluffy, chickens have been hiding in the coop today. I think the sheep are the least affected. They act like nothing's different. Moses is really enjoying the cold weather. He's finally not hot.
Thank God for fireplaces! We will be toasty. My dad has a cord and a half of good firewood stacked.
We are praying for all those affected by the storms to stay warm and safe this week.

I've been milk stand training the goats ahead of the February kiddings. I have 3 FFs this year. One is a golden angel and already has perfect manners. One does the usual bunny hops, then resigns herself to her fate and goes on eating. The third? She is a wild bronco with the temper of a rattlesnake. I have been kicked in the face, sat on, stepped on and bit. She is going to be very fun. I'm glad I started 6 weeks early because this would be even more awful if I actually had to milk her. Hopefully the sitting goes away because I can deal with all the other issues much more easily. Another funny thing she does is hunch her entire body up so badly that her topline looks like a humpy mountain range. My sister was looking at her on the stand the other day and exclaimed that her rump was sooo steep! It wasn't until she got down that we realized just how much she was hunching up.

Yep. Goat drama.

I’m glad y’all are ready for the cold and whatever it brings with it. Pallets are useful for so many things!

I have a big black tub for horses or cattle. I use it as a brooder for baby chicks. It also comes in handy as a water reservoir in freezing weather. I bust ice on top so I can scoop out water. I’ve got it in a sunny spot, full of water for this cold spell, just for a back up.

Glad y’all are stocked up on wood. Wood heat will carry yall through the cold spell!
