So, I forgot to get my husband to help me yesterday do blood draws. I decided to attempt the one-person-blood-draw technique illustrated on page 8 of Goat Medicine.

Have any of you been crazy enough to give this a go? The book suggests backing the goat into a corner. Any other suggestions for me before my 120# doe expresses her thoughts on the matter?

If I ever attempted to do a blood draw from the neck alone..I would get them very VERY secure in a stanchion. Limited movement is the key. I personally would'nt risk it alone. IMO. I hope it works out. Id be interested to know if you did it?? And how. Maybe there is a way??
Just to chicken to try. ;)

I think I'd use a gate as a squeeze, tying the goat and securing the gate so the doe is completely immobilized, at least as far as horizontal movement is concerned! If you are quick, it really doesn't bother them, it is more about the insult of being restrained and they do need to hold quite still for newbies.

Voice of newbie experience here. But I had a man restrain for me.

We did a blood draw last week on one and I STILL had to back her butt into a corner AND have someone else do the actual draw... Just sayin'...
