Takes a hammer drill with a 4 inch wide spade bit to get to water for animals. So far the ice is 8 inches deep here. Being it's cordless I also keep the battery indoors until I need it, same with any other battery or it throws a fit once we get close to zero degrees.
For the pigs we have a root cellar with our water in there of 1500 gallon tank. Stays in mid 40's down there buried in a small hillside. Every morning feed 10 gallons of corn/wheat/barley mix that was fermenting, then grab two more 5 gallon buckets of water to water them all stored in there. I'm sure if I can't get water from the small pond for the birds I would just grab them a bucket of water. So far in two winters I haven't had that problem, the problem I have had is too cold to let them out -25°F or colder which is where I just leave them locked up with feed and a 2.5 gallon bucket of water.I don't think I could do your cold with the animals.. except to bring in the water so it would not freeze overnight... and I don't think you are set up to do that very well...
