Boone loves checking out all his peeps when its chore time. TheMan had to go into town last minute so I had to feed. Boone hung out with the cows while I made Fen help with the chickens and ducks. It’s sad to me, how Fen no longer remembers how to do anything. He used to love having a job, but now that he’s “Randy’s dog” he doesn’t do anything but chase 4 wheelers. It’s like the ducks were invisible. I had to just use him as a fence because he didn’t remember directions or moving them at all. He never worked the ducks but he had helped me with calves and chickens before. Heath, Git ‘em, and Bill weren’t species specific, they would help me with whatever was in front of us, be it goats, chickens, cows or whatever. I am going to try and get him to leave Fen here in the afternoons so I can get him working again. It’s too damn hard for me to gather all the free ranging critters without a dog’s help. And it’s a shame because Fen is bred up the wahzoo as a herding dog. All Mary’s dogs have been trial dogs. His dam, his sire, his sister, 1/2 sister, uncle…and he just lays in the greasy shop and chases 4 wheelers. It’s sacrilege!
I’ve been getting after Randy to make him work for him too, seeing as he can’t pick things up off the ground anymore along with several other things Fen is trained to do.
Boone needs more proofing on his down stays, and recalls. He’s great about a lot of things but with all my issues lately we have neglected our training, so hopefully, as soon as the next baby gift is finished (tomorrow, I hope) I want to get back to it.

Naughty Fen! He’s reverting to a complete numbskull. He hasn’t forgotten as much as he just doesn’t care. His heart has never been in it, being Randy’s dog is all he wants. Maybe with a refresher course and training Randy too, he might work for Randy.

Boone’s personality is really starting to blossom. He does something new everyday.
Where he used to be clumsy with his feet and his demands, he now gently and politely asks for things with a look, a boop or a careful tap of his foot.
He has become much more intuitive about when I need him and has even devised new ways of helping or supporting me. About 2 a.m. TheMan woke up screaming with another cramp. I found some magnesium spray for him and while I was trying to help him in the living room, my back went into spasm. As soon as I had him squared away, I went into the kitchen because that was as far as I could get. Boone met me in there. He came around the front of me, then turned around, backing up until he could sit and lean against my legs, which allowed me to rest my weight on his shoulders without putting stress on his joints, but relieving mine at the same time. We remained in this position for quite a long time, Then he escorted me back to bed, staying close enough to my side that he was touching my leg. He proceeded to get on the bed with us and kept his head on my hip until I fell asleep.
Our communication is getting better,
very nearly, but not quite, rivaling that of Heath and I. There have been very few dogs in my lifetime that I shared this close of a bond. what a blessing he’s become.

My love for this dog just keeps growing. He really is my unicorn ❤️

Mr Potamus was abnormally large, and way above standard for a Maremma, but Boone is HUGE!!
His back is at the bottom of my hip and his head is at my waist. I’m trying to keep him a bit light until he’s mature, just as protection for his hips (although both parents have OFA excellent. I ❤️ this breeder!) but he’s still 115# @ 9 mo old so he’s on track to weigh high end of the breed norm at maturity.
His head is SO broad and his ears are even huge 😝 He’s covered my face with 1 swipe of his tongue 😜
He’s a beast! But a lovely beast 😉

He stole Randy’s radish 😂 And this morning I found the remains of a cucumber he gnawed on last night. At least he’s eating food now, instead of clothes 😄
