Boone done good last night!!!
There were newly weaned calves in the far back pasture this past week. The sick or weak ones always go back there for observation and extra care. Boone doesn’t go out with them because they are not my responsibility and we don’t access that pasture anymore, since its only barbed wire fencing for 20 acres and wouldn’t contain him.

We didn’t know what was up, and usually after Boone has barked a few times I can whistle for him and he comes right in to be told what a good boy he is. He’s been very effective in protecting the rabids, chickens and (ahem) ducks. He’s learned not to bark at deer, ranch dogs, etc., just predators and I am amazed at his discretion at only a year. He has not been the least bit upset by the cows on the other side of our rock wall, or in the big corral, or the calves out back behind Mister’s pasture. He doesn’t care about the cowboys back there doctoring or their dogs with them, working.

He went bananas last night, NOTHING would call him in or convince him to stop carrying on. Randy finally got his robe and boots and went out with a flashlight to see what Boone was alerting us to.
SOMEBODY’s dogs were chasing the just weaned calves all over the pasture. Boone was not having it! Randy immediately called boss’ oldest son who took care of whoever’s they were.
Boone happily came back to the house and spent 10-15 minutes in bed with us, then went back to work, quietly, for the rest of the night.
The boss should give him a reward.
This gud boi knows what’s okay and what isn’t and as far as he is concerned, if he can SEE stock, he will protect it.
Gud boi Boone!!

Everytime I moved wrong and yelped today due to my hand, Boone bailed off the couch or blasted in from out back to be at my side. Of course he insists on escorting me everywhere I go. I made it out to check on rabbits and even out to see Mister and the 3 remaining chickens.

There was a huge pile of laundry on the floor and he did an awesome job of handing them to me so I could place them in the hampers.
He’s such a remarkable boy, for a breed that is bred to work independently, without taking direction from humans
I am so blessed he was the one the breeder chose for me.
He also lets me hug and kiss on him all I want. Most dogs don’t care for it but he seems totally ok with it, without losing his stoic demeanor.

Is that a...foot in the picture, to the right of Boone, near the table leg?
