Hi! I'm Stormimay, and back October my family and I moved to a little bit of land (1.44 acres). Since then we have aquired a cat, a dog, a snake, and a breeding pair of French Angora bunnies. I have 24 guinea eggs in the incubator right now and next month I hope to add meat rabbits and ducks to the crew. Maybe pigs in July or August? Maybe...that might be too much for one year. Someday I would like geese, turkeys, goats, and possibly dairy sheep. I am also trying to start a permaculture garden. Right now I am very new and know nothing, but I have lots of enthusiasm, questions, and butterflies!

Other than my mini-farm, I am an Orthodox Christian homeschooling mom to 8 free-range kids and wife to one very hard-worker. I used to knit, paint, write, and sew, but those hobbies have kinda been taken over by the homesteading thing I'm working on...hopefully I'll get back to them someday.

Nice to meet y'all!

Welcome to BYH @Stormimay ! If all of your guinea eggs hatch your whole neighborhood will be tick free! I have 7 and live on 5 acres and they still visit all of our neighbors! lol

Welcome from Texas! Put those 8 free range kiddos to work on the homestead and you'll have time to continue to do some painting, knitting, writing and sewing! I admire you for taking on all those challenges! I'm sure your kiddos will love it all - as will you!

Thanks for the welcomes! An update: I now have 9 actual keets living in a brooder in my living room...somehow I am astounded those eggs actually produced birds; it's not something I've actually witnessed before! LOL Instead in my incubator I have 48 chicken eggs and I am picking up 5 live chicks Wednesday, but on the herd animal front I now have a goat! We got him for free from a family that was going to put him down. He was useless to them but is a great brush goat for us.
My eight kids are having a great time, and are trying to help, but they are newer at this than I am and most are too young to do much (the oldest is 14 and is a big help, the youngest is almost 2 and causes trouble, all those in the middle are between helping and messing at the moment.) Someday they will handle most of the daily chores, at least, but right now they are my main herd animal! LOL
