Oh, I see, when I think of bottle babies, I think of going and buying a baby that you have to bottle feed. That's always how we did it when we raised other bottle babies, didn't even think about other people raising them for me. I might look into that.
I'm still not sure exactly how I'm going to start. I know that my end goal is to get a team of six goats that will pull a mini stage coach, and that I know NOTHING at this point on training goats to pack or pull. I also know that I want to be able to take my goats hiking and camping with me.
What I picture when I think of what I want my herd to look like when I "get there" is a nice herd, maybe not any particular breed, but bred/purchased more for disposition and body type, maybe around 10-15 goats. I would like to be able to use any of them for hiking or pulling. I'd like to learn to do it myself and be able to train the new additions to the herd. I know that's not possible right now, and am trying to figure out the best place to start. I know the basics of goat husbandry, and need to brush up on some of the goat quirks that are different from other farm animals. I also know I have work to do in order to get my field goat ready, so it'll be at least another 6-12 months before I can start purchasing goats.
I like the idea of babies/young-ins, but wonder if an already trained goat to learn from would be a good idea? Or maybe one of each?
