I've been keen to get my new buck to breed and when I placed the doe in his cage (she's 16 months old, he's 8 months) it appeared as though she lifted and he started to do his thing only to stop, look around and catch his breath and continue on...then stop again then start again and stop again only to dismount and hop around his cage, going back to his daily business. This happened about 3 times today. What's is going on with him? or her? It's the first time for both of them, so maybe they just aren't sure of what to do? He's got great body condition and isn't overweight. He's just not doing the fall to the side and thump around part I've been told to look for.

Advice is greatly appreciated!

He probably already did his job. Rabbit mating is very quick, it only takes a second.

not all bucks faint and fall off. i have had many litters from my boys and never knew if they connected or not because they didn't do it but still got babies. i've also had different bucks faint and fall off w/ different does and had no babies but when rebred had babies next round. most of but not all my bucks will faint. u will definately know if they faint and fall off when u see it, so funny.

from what u r describeing she is very interested and doing what she is suppost to she is ready to breed and doesn't sound like she is bred already. he may be just practiceing still. larger breeds sometimes take 9mths to hit breeding age. my elop buck was the same way first few times he was in with his does till he figured out what was going on.

Thanks so much therealsilkiechick! Everything I have read has told me to look for the buck to faint and fall off and I was getting worried that he just wasn't up to the task. I guess in 31 days we'll see just how well he did :)
