I live in the Northern US in an area with heavy snowfall. Maintaining paths to outbuildings can be a hassle at times due to the amount of snow. As such I am hesitant to house a male goat in the winter in its own structure. Would a bucks odor be an issue if houses in a barn, separate pen, with the main herd? 3 seasons a year he would be in a remote structure it would just be during winter that he'd be segregated.

What kind of goats do you have? Do you milk them? The only time a bucks over causes any trouble is if you are milking your girls because then it can make the milk smell and have an off taste. If you are not milking then the only problem would be making sure he doesn't year everything down trying to get to the others. For most standard goats breeding time is Nov- Jan. I have pygmies. They can breed year round.
