Part 1 of today's Before & Afters

Rain diversion - to hopefully ease the muddy/flooding issue in the barn.

The metal part of the big container was baby Eva's hay feeder. I put the plastic part back in & hope that this will collect rain water enough that I can divert it away from the barn. That downspout on the corner goes nowhere anymore.... just runs & pools up around that corner & seeps into the surrounding soil until it eventually dries up.... usually around mid August 😅

The filter out of my milking strip cup fits perfectly in the opening on the top!

New flexible downspout ready to hang

Bucket filter cobbled together & "installed"

Discharge hose attached & ready for a test run!!.... AND IT WORKED!!!!!
If i could figure out how to post a video I'd show yall the water gushing through it! :celebrate
First several test runs cleaned out a good bit of silt & debris - and the filter WORKED & caught it all each time

"Clean" water running out the far end

It's supposed to rain all day tomorrow. Should be a great test!!!

Checked on the rain thingy. I knew when I "finished" it that this was very much a first draft. Yesterday it worked beautifully with the hose in the gutter sending gallons gushing down the pipe. But today, with drizzling rain showers it's not great. BETTER that it was - no doubt! Water IS going into the big tank, down the hose & out to the driveway. But at such a reduced flow, much of the water is running along the bottom of the bucket before dripping off the edge.. which is missing the hole & ending up right back on the ground at the barn's corner.
I need to think of a way to make the bottom of the bucket more funnel- like..... 🤔

The bucket ought to fit into the stainless milk tank strainers that years ago they set on top of the hole in the milk tank and poured the milk into the tank... had a strainer in the bottom that kept all the "stuff" out of the milk in the tank. This was before they had pipelines and such. Might be able to find one from an old dairy somewhere close... I know they have been offered on Ebay in the past. Also, the rolling oil change collectors that are used in garages... might be able to buy just the "funnel piece" that sits on top of the collecting barrel.... cannot think if there are any kind of funnels large enough in auto parts stores.....
Glue a piece of pvc pipe to the bottom of the bucket that will fit in the hole ?????

My first thought was to glue a canning funnel, but I thought that freezing would probably pop it loose?
The mechanic funnel might be an option.... I wonder how often the shop at work replaces oil change funnels??? Working on big CAT eq, they might have some big ones

Didn't think... yeah, ask at your job in the maintenance shop ..... I know that the dairy ones were about 10-14 inches across on the top and maybe 4-6 inches on the bottom funnel part. They fit tight into the hole in the top of the milk tank. You don't need tight, just something that will sit there and direct the flow into the tank.
